I won't be surprised if some Koreans tell you that these guys are all Canadians, not Koreans. Hey, I wouldn't be surprised either if they say to you that these guys are Americans! I lost count of the times Koreans told me that Korean citizen who killed so many at Virginia Tech "wasn't Korean, he was American."
That story's quite disturbing. Those guys are predators, given the way they networked to find their victims. |

Actually, the first time I heard about this today, I was asked by a Korean "Did you hear about the three Koreans in Canada who...?" |

Those Koreans may technically and legally be right. The report never actually says their nationality, but does say they are from Toronto. |

korean news are reporting that Korean exchange students were involved. Or it might be a different story altogether.
But my coworkers mentioned it to me today.
check marmot's hole for additional info. |

Interesting, but ultimately irrelevant.
You can't generalize from the actions of this group to Koreans in Canada to Korean-Canadians as a whole. There are plenty of law abiding Koreans in Canada, the U.S. and elsewhere.
And, regrettably, there are Canadians who commit sex crimes, too. A serial killer in Vancouver comes to mind.
I think most Koreans are genuinely saddened when they learn one of their expats committed a heinous act abroad, even if they are citizens of that country now. That was what I saw after the Virginia Tech shootings. |

All true, but you are missing the point. Western male English teachers are portrayed in the Korean media as sexual deviants and predators. And millions of Koreans lap it up. All this despite zero cases of this nature happening in Korea. All the while these types of crimes are committed by Koreans in our home countries. Yes there are " Canadians who commit sex crimes, too" but they just dont do it in Korea. |

| I understand that you all feel persecuted as foreigners in the ROK but this really isn't a current event. Let's not stoop to their level. |

This may be true to some extent, but focusing on stuff like that will just leave you p.o.ed at Korea. If you can ignore these things, you'll be a happier person. |

Unfortunately this just isn't true.

Hard to ignore when it greatly affects visa regulations, hiring practices, and the locals' perception of you as an educator. |

And I don't know where the whole Koreans lap it up thing comes from. I know in 2004-2005 there were some foreigners who wrote some explicit stuff on another website and some netizen weirdos trumped it up so the general public might feel some outrage. However, I have never once been accused of being a predatorial deviant. I meet some Korean guys who are plenty perverted. I think the foreigners who say that we are considered to be deviants must look over their shoulders a lot. |

It's close enough to zero. According to the source you linked, out of nearly 20,000 E-2 visa holders, only TEN were arrested for sex crimes. That's .05%. |

How many of those ten arrests were convictions? Were any Americans? |
