I work in a public school. Many new teachers came this year. My contract does not say anything about dating coworkers.
I am not part of Epik or SMOE.
But a new teacher came two weeks ago and she is new to the city. She already offering me to go to her home town Pohong for weekends, drinking and so on.
I know in USA most companies hate peolpe dating coworkers. |

I don't think it'd be necessarily frowned upon, but there are many disadvantages.
(I used to joke with my brass about asking one out, they'd always be intensely curious about which female teacher I liked, but I was never given a frown, or a look much less a "don't do that/cant do that edict" )
for starters, you will be constantly gossiped about and if/when things go bad, you will be uncomfortable being around your ex and or vice versa. |

Are you prepared for a year in hades when it goes south on you?
Socializing is acceptable... romantic dating is asking for problems...
Oh, and if you work at a public school you ARE under the auspices of one of the POEs, even if they were not the ones to recruit you.

Gossip will spread, but if you think it is worth it then it most probably is!!! Everywhere I have taught has been really good about encouranging co-worker relations and also about not asking questions the next day. Depends on your other co-workers and how much they like to gossip. I say go for it^^* |

A guy I knew dated a girl at his work. It went sour, then he had to work with her for the rest of the year. He really had a bad year.
But that being said I knew many korean teachers to date other korean teachers. But they always kept it a secret and just acted as friends at work. But for some strange reason they told me. I guess they wanted to tell someone and figured who am I going to tell? |

I think I may give it a try upon hearing what other people said. I only have her for three classes and she is the one inviting me out.
I will wish for the best and not expect the worst. |

Whatever you do, don't tell anyone at the school! In fact, don't even tell any teacher anywhere ever. Delete this thread
Seriously though, Koreans gossip like mad. Although you might not care if people know you are seeing her, she will. It would take a long time for her to feel comfortable knowing about you being together (assuming you get together, etc.). Korean teachers switch schools every four years so there's the potential for a lot of gossip to spread around. No K-teacher would want to have a reputation for having fooled around with a foreign teacher (and it not lead to marriage). And people ABSOLUTELY WILL talk about it if they know about it.
All in my experience, of course. Other people may disagree |

just do it privately.... and dont let it be known to the others! she probably has a few friends at the school, so it could be difficult.
But anything worth doing is worth doing right! she most likely knows the rules of the game, so if where she invited you is a long bus or train away all the better.
like they say, what happens in PohongSTAYS in Pohong... |

Funny...I think the opposite of most of the people about it going sour. I started dating my coworker the week after I started. I told him that we were just friends because of the work thing, but after awhile, we were together and now we are married. So my suggestion would be to talk about what you would do if you were to break up (once a relationship actually forms) until then...just have fun. |
