This is my first post, so hi, I'm David and I'm planning on going to Seoul to teach English in August I've been reading the forum and there is a load of information on here so thanks!
So yeah, I was wondering what the deal is with mobiles out there...
I figure I'll need 2 mobiles (or 1 mobile & a skype wireless MP3 player) for 2 jobs, one to make calls to my soon-to-be friends in Korea and another to make calls to the UK (using Skype). I'm quite tech savvy so I wouldn't mind an all singing all dancing TV/wireless/skype mobile that can do both jobs, what options are there for that? Are they expensive and are they all on contracts?
Are there mp3 players that can make skype calls on wireless - I know the iPod Touch can but I'm not a huge Apple fan. Is it cheaper to buy in the UK or Korea and are there compatibility problems (besides the power supply)?? Also, how much is wireless access in seoul?
Basically I'm just wondering what you use to contact home. I could always just use my laptop but I think having a touchscreen wireless device that I can call London to on Skype while out and about in Seoul is a great idea!! So what options are out there?? |

Buying an iPhone when you get here is the best option. Foreign phones don't work in Korea. The iphone will work as your normal phone, plus it is a handy skype handset over WIFI.
There are a couple of Android options. The Motorola Motoroi is probably the best. The other is the ANDRO One from LG. But apparently it is a warmed over version of an older phone.
Which other mp3 players have the skype app? I can't think of any. Maybe the Microsoft ITouch clone (I can't remember its name).
You will have some trouble getting a contract phone from anyone other than LG. SK carries the Iphone, so you might have to try and talk your co-teach or school into putting it in their name.
Do some searching. There are a million threads on cellphones in this forum. |
