|
|
I'm thinking of going to Seoul, and I was just wondering if there is a limit to the overtime hours people must work.
I know they pay extra, but I don't want to end up working overtime all the time, although I wouldn't mind it occasionally to make some extra bucks. That's the main reason I'm going, plus to travel. But if I'm working nonstop I will end up getting stressed out and not enjoying my time there as well.
Is there a cap on overtime, or can they make me work as much as they want? |

In a public school you work your 40 hours (22 classes before extra pay kicks in) in the school and mostly you are home by 5. There IS a cap of +6 classes per week (giving a maximum of 28 classes).
In a hakwon (remember - it is a business) you will work anywhere from 30-60 CLASSES per week (120 CLASSROOM HOURS) per month.
Be VERY careful when looking at a hakwon. ASK how many classes you will be expected to teach each day, week and month.
As an example, I was just offered a position in a hakwon in Ulsan that was pretty standard (120 teaching hours per month) until I asked the question about classes and received the answer, "Classes are 30 minutes each and you teach for 6 hours per day. Yes, you teach 12 classes per day (240 classes per month).
No thank you !
The usual after-school hakwon will ask you to teach 30 classes of 50 minutes per week.
Kindy hakwons can be worse if you are not careful - up to 45 classes of 40 minutes per week.
