If you had to choose, where would you rather live?
I am leaning towards Ulsan, because in Daejeon I have to be in the Techno Valley. |

I like Daedeok, but it depends a bit how far away in Daedeok it is. You can bike and run and it's quite a lot of space there. Depending on where you live, it doesn't have to be far from Dunsandong (new downtown) either. You have to remember that the taxis/buses/bikes can run 3 times faster in Daedeok than they can do in the city, and it's also nice separated sidewalks so you don't have to worry about getting hit by the cars running in 120 km/h. There aren't really any HomePlus or Emart nearby as far as I know... I like to have one in walking distance. |

I'm moving to Daejeon, a little bit north of the techno valley. I lived there last year, in the inner city. Time will tell if I like living on the outskirts or not but they tell me my accomodation will be nice. I'll find out next Wednesday. In your case, there is a Lotte World in the techno valley and I had a friend who lived there last year. He was out every night and he worked until 10, so it wasn't too much of a problem for him. I hear it's a nice area too.
Anyway, I loved living in Daejeon last year. What's great about Daejeon is that although the city itself offers a lot of fun, it's a central transportation hub so you can hop on the KTX and be in any major city in under an hour, or in the case of Busan, a little over an hour. Daejeon has about 400,000 people more than Ulsan too.
Worst case scenario, you learn the bus routes and it will take 15 minutes for you to get downtown as opposed to 5. No big deal. |

I live in Ulsan and it blows. I hate it here. I am usually in Busan. Its like if Detroit was in New Jersey. Its a small town feel even though there is a million and a half people. There is nothing to do. The foreigners aren't the friendliest bunch and had a much better time living in Busan. Koreans don't mingle much with the waygooks either. There is no subway and the bus system has no English translation. I would pretty much want to be anywhere but here. Just my two cents. |
