I am currently in Korea on an f-3 visa. My wife is teaching English. I will be getting an E-2 visa soon and I was told to go to Guam to do this instead of Japan because it take less time? Has anyone done this? How long will it take?

Thanks in advance.

I went on a visa run to Guam about two years ago when applying for an E-2 visa. It took one business day for them to issue the visa. Of course, it only took one day for the consulate in Japan to issue my E-7 visa (and I hear that's generally the case with E-2 visas as well), so there's no advantage in terms of speed. The only reason I went to Guam back then was because it was my first E-2 visa and I was required to return to my home country (USA) to apply for the visa. Guam is, of course, the closest American territory with a Korean consulate. If this isn't your first E-2 visa or you aren't otherwise required to visit America to get it, then there's no reason not to just go to Japan. If it is your first and you're an American citizen, then Guam will probably be much faster than any mainland consulate.

Thanks for the info. Actually my school is sending me to Japan. It is my first E-2 visa but they don't seem to think it will take too long.

So, is this topic in regards to first time visa application? or renewal?
