|
|
I made this as a Post on another thread to another guy a few weeks ago bitching and moaning that we should be treated the same as korean teacher in the Public School System.
To those who agree with this:
- Have fun staying multiple hours after 4:40 without pay
- Have fun doubling your prep
- Have fun doing extracurricular activities you wont get extra pay for
- Have fun Marking a crap load of assignments
- Have fun being responsible for all testing
- Have fn on your field trips
- Have fun going to every single Korean meeting where you wont understand a word
- Have fun PAYING for you Own apartment
- Have fun WORKING EVERY OTHER SATURDAY!!!!!
You dont get the same rights ( usually its bitching about the vacation where you see this argument) and you dont have the same work load/expectations of a Korean Teacher.
You sign a contract that states you work camp and you get 21 vacation days. YOUR CHOICE! Its not "unfair" when the Koreans have a different work schedule than the one you agreed to when you dont even remotely have the same job. |

No way I want to deal with grading and parents. Some of those parents are nuts. Although I don't mind going on those drunk field trips, and always fun confiscating alcohol from students and then allowing them one pity bottle for 30 of them to consume. Better then getting booze from teachers then them going into town to buy one. |

*sigh* Who the hell says this? Different job, different responsibilities.
Grow up. And this is coming from a guy who complains about public schools all the time. |

Well lets see, Our contract spels out our duties pretty well, they are not the same as a Koreans. We are not full teachers, we can not teach a class alone ( even though that rule gets broken a lot) and um, we dont have any of those responsibilities I just mentioned.
So um lets see
Koreans - ACTUAL teachers, us, CONTRACTED native speakers
k, that covers the different jobs part
Koreans- marking, supervisions, extra hours, korean meetings, work on Saturdays
That coveres the different responsibilities part.
What exactly to I have to grow up about. I am pointing out where others are bitching without cause ( ie no vaild reason)
Perhaps you should read my post again and get a clue |

You are correct. I've never heard any foreign teachers ask for the same pay or responsibilities as a Korean teacher. Not once. Everyone understands that the job of a FT is different than that of a KT. |

Then you clearly are selective with the threads you pay attention to. I have seen it a number of times on here. It usually has to do with deskwarming or vacation topics ( ie "We should get 5 weeks like the Koreans," or " We should't have to deskwarm like the Koreans"
My point is that these people want the BENEFITS of the KT without the drawbacks ( more vacation, no deskwarming) |

Most of these complaints I'd say are from bored people at work with little of nothing to do, sitting in front of their computers blowing off a little steam on Dave's while imagining sunning themselves on a beach while all the other Koreans are on holidays.
Nice rant by the way. |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there is overtime pay k teachers contracts. If they choose to ask for it is their own consideration.

- Have fun doubling your prep |
I'm not sure what you mean by this. My k teachers and I have basically the same class prep responsibilities.
Quote: |
- Have fun doing extracurricular activities you wont get extra pay for |
k teachers in my school are always paid for extra curricular classes. If they aren't being paid in another school, they're being taken advantage of.
Quote: |
- Have fun Marking a crap load of assignments |
I share the marking with my co-workers.
Quote: |

Again, it's a shared responsibility in my school.

Many NSETs have to do this anyway. It's part of showing your colleagues that you are part of the team. Nobody bats an eye if I bring some other work to do, or text friends during the meeting.

- Have fun PAYING for you Own apartment |
There are apartment subsidies available for korean teachers, usually tiny one-bedrooms like ours. I know this because my co teacher went through the process of getting one last year.

I wouldn't want to do it, but does that really warrant five exclamation marks?
Seoulio, I'm not sure what your point is, however these scenarios your paint aren't standard in each school.
|

Seoulio, stop complaining! Obviously you don't know what you are talking about.
Stop trying to draw attention to yourself!
I agree with wylies99 and prideofidaho on this one. |

LMAO,
1) I am not complaining
2) I am pointing out the stupidity of OTHERS complaining
3) I am one of the few people who DOES know what he is talking about in this regard. Pretty much every one of Prideofidaho's points is wrong, or at the very least there are ofent as many of not more cases where the opposite is true.
4) You can agree with them all you'd like fact dont change based on individuals opinions of the facts being inaccurate.
5) how exactly am I trying to draw attention to myself? So anyone who posts a dissenting thread ( ie DEFENDING something) is drawing attention to themself? get over it dude.
6) I will beat you to the punch on the label " I sound like an apologist" yeah imagine that eh Defending what I signed on the dotted line for.
Back in Canada if I was paid to come in and watch TV I would thank my lucky starts for the break, catch up on some reading, study a language etc. |

THERE IS FOR CERTAIN THINGS, BUT USUALY ASKING FOR IT IS BOTH NOT THE KOREAN WAY, AND A SURE FIRE WAY TO HAVE EVERYTHING YOU DO FALL UNDER SCRUTINY.
Quote: |
- Have fun doubling your prep |

YES THIS MAY BE TRUE IN SOME SCHOOLS, IN OTHER THE ktS HAVE TO PLAN A LESSON WITH YOU, MEANING THEY PLAN ON ON THIER OWN, AND ONE WITH YOU, THAT WOULD BE DOUBLE RIGHT? THERE ARE ALSO OTHER THINGS THAT YOU DONT GENERALLY HAVE TO WORY ABOUT THAT A KT WOULD

I DIDNT SAY CLASSES, I SAID ACTIVITIES, BASKETBALL, DEBATE, DRAMA CLUB ETC, THESE ARE BY AND LARGE UNPAID, JUST LIKE BACK HOME

YOU DO, OTHER DONT, OR HAVE MUCH MORE THAN YOU DO.

AT YOUR SCHOOL, NOT AT OTHERS

YEAH THATS A TOUGH ONE EH, FIELD TRIPS, WHAT ARE THEY?

YES AND, YET AGAIN, OTHERS DO NOT

A SUBSIDY IS NOT AN ABSOLUTE, NOR IS IT STANDARD. AN NSET COULD HAVE A MILLIONAIRE FOR A FATHER( AS I DO) AND STILL GET AN APARTMENT FOR FREE, A KOREAN CAN NOT.

REALLY, WE ARE NITPICKING THE NUMBER OF EXCLAIMATION POINTS I USED?????????? ( ADDED A FEW EXTRA "?" FOR YOU) WELL AS IT SEEMS TO BE THE USUAL POINT BROUGHT UP BY THE PEOPLE MOANING FOR MORE VACATION OR LESS DESKWARMING, THOUGHT IT WAS DESERVING OF SOME EMPHASIS.
Seoulio, I'm not sure what your point is, however these scenarios your paint aren't standard in each school. |
Many of these points are standard, but even if this wasnt the case, what is standard is both parties are expected to stick to the contract they agree to. Thats basically my point. If you agree to a contract and then think the grass is greener on the other side you have no cause to complain, and my point is that the Grass is not all that green and we westerners by and large have it better than the KT's anyway.
Or would you disagree that we have it worse than a Korean teacher?
I guess that's my point |

And all three of you know EXACTLY what the duties of other kts are and what they get paid, for everything right?
You guys sit around and talk about this?
So all of your KTs have an apartment subsidy right? all of your KT's ask for overtime and leave promptly at the end of an 8 hour day, tey never stay later.
none of your kts are given extra duties that increase their workload, like say being your liason to the admins?
wow, you guys are naive, and not paying attention to my main argument. |
