[HuNet KOREA & Point System of MINISTRY OF JUSTICE] Please call 1345 for detail
I received this message earlier today. I called but hung up when I realized I was just calling the immigration offices. Has anyone else gotten this? What's it about? Have they found out about my porn habits? |

I got it too. Did a google search and checked it out. Apparently HuNet is a new English-friendly service to help foreigners with immigration/visa issues like becoming a citizen, etc.
Seems like the message was a kind of public announcement. |

i got the message too, but recognized the number as immigration's number. 1345 is immi's and it's their general number. nothing specific in the text message, as in "press extension 666" for the Devil Immigration officer etc.
scary that immi has my phone number on file. oh wait, i gave it to them. nevermind. |

I called the number this morning. They told me that it was just notice of the HuNet Korea website. They said that Visa renewals can be done online, and that there should have been an email too.
No fun to get the text at 5:55 pm and have night and morning to wonder what it was about.
Then they texted me the web address, www.visa.go.kr
It all seems pretty benign. |

This is what I got at 5.52 last night. I called about 10 minutes later and spoke to an operator. It is completely benign as far as I can tell. Seriously, though. Can't they employ one native speaker to tell them that this kind of message is going to freak people out?! Justice Department? What does that have to do with a new immigration website? It's nice of them to tell us, but it would be good if they could think it through a bit better! Having thousands of teachers calling immigration to get this message deciphered is not a good use of immigration resources. |

I think I've dealt with him during one of my contract renewals. |

I thought it was serious when I saw MINISTRY OF JUSTICE, but after trying to get through a couple of times and being dropped when no operator was available, I figured it was just an ad for something or other. |
