For all you graphics card nuts, like me, tomorrow is the day when we see if the new Nvidia cards, codenamed Fermi, will outdo the current ATI champs.
Lots of rumors on the net saying Nvidia has nothing amazing.
After you see the benchmarks tomorrow, which company will you go for? |

I don't care about the absolute best card because I'm not a serious gamer. I like bang for buck, cooling, and power efficiency. None of those really go well with nVidia.
On a side note, this might want to get moved to the Tech forum. |

I've always liked Nvidia for the absolute dumbest reason ever: aesthetics. I bash on Mac users all the time for loving their sleek, over-priced machines, but prefer Nvidia for the same reason. Difference is, though, I don't actually act on it. I've always preferred the green look over the red with the weird art on the cards.
I'll go with whatever gives me more performance for the buck.
Currently looking for a computer so if anyone could provide links to this info when it comes out on Tom's or something, I'd appreciate it. |

I go for whatever the top performer in my price range is at the time, so I've used both, but in general I've had better experience with Nvidia.
Edit: I usually only buy mid-range cards. |

ATI for me.
First, they consistently put out cards for users like me...solid mid-range performers at a great price. Second, they have worked very hard in the last couple of years addressing drivers, power concerns and temperatures. Nvidia seem to think that everyone will go out and get a 600+ watt PSU on their behalf. Finally, I just like the way they do business, unlike the kind of scummy tactics of Nvidia in the past.
All that said, I am glad they both exist to create competition and better prices. |

Well, the benchmarks are up on various sites.
Here's one............
http://anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3783&p=20
The general summary would seem to be that the new cards from Nvidia are only 5% or so faster (depending on game tested) than their ATI rivals, but they are a fair bit more expensive and run hotter, noisier, and require quite a bit more power. With many games they are actually beaten or just about equal their ATI rivals.
So not really a victory for Nvidia.....but at least some competition has returned to the graphics card market.
I'm sticking with ATI. |
