Is there anything like a Saturday farmer's market (somewhere close to the center of the city)? Days other than Saturday would be cool too Smile

I was thinking of something along the lines of a street market or open air market... not a supermarket-type place. Is Mangwon market along those lines?

there are tons of cheap open air markets. where do you live? people who buy veggies/fruit from department stores are fools. the market is usually half price except for one or two 'heavily' discounted items.

Yeah there's literally open air markets everywhere in Seoul, in every district, 7 days a week. They're fresher and cheaper than E-mart or Family Mart. Walk around long enough and you'll run into a few.

The market right around the corner in any neighborhood. How hard do you have to look?

Well, I'm currently in Kangnam and I haven't seen any. I know there are plenty in the northern half of Seoul but I was looking for something a little bit closer... and I'd rather not have to ride the subway and get out at every stop in order to find one.

Garak-Dong Agricultural Market. Not too far from Gangnam. It is open nearly every day (I believe it is closed first and third Sunday...or it might be 2nd and 4th, can't remember). Great price on farmers veggies/fruits though.

Keep in mind that Garak Market is wholesale, so you'll be getting more than you may be able to ingest before the expiration date. Up and down the side streets of many neighborhoods, you should be able to find independent fruit sellers, selling their goods off the back of trucks. The prices are good, but sometimes they are identical to the supermarket prices. For example, a truck a few blocks away from my apartment was selling bananas for 3000 Won--so the sign said. I just stepped into my neighborhood Homeplus and I saw the same number of bananas on sale for 3000 Won. That said, the truck was a hell of a lot closer to my glad pad and you would probably be able to bargain down.

Yeah, I live near Mangwon. It's a street market. Lots of very cheap fruit and veg, but probably a bit too far for you, if you're in Gangnam.

(Nonhyeon Dong) Yeong-Dong Shi-jang, Exit 1 & 2 of Nonhyeon Station, or walkable from Kangnam or Sinsa Stations.
