For those who have gone through the process or investigated it, how much do spouse visas cost for other major countries such as America, Canada, New Zealand and Australia?

For Britain the cost is up to around an eye-watering six hundred pounds! That's more than 1,000,000 Korean won.

I was talking to an American friend recently and although he didn't know well, he was under the impression that the cost was very low for an America visa with just a great deal of hassle with getting all the paperwork in order.

For those that know, please share your knowledge...

Not to mention the lawyer or paralegal fees you probably paid to put those papers in order...

Are you talking about permanent residency? I don't really think 1,000,000 won is unreasonable for permanent residency. Permanent residency is a very serious commitment and something few people need to apply for more than once in their life. It's a bit like marriage, just to a country and not a person. There are also quite a lot of costs involved to make sure that it is a genuine marriage and so on.

If this is just for a temporary visa, all I said above is of course void. A time limited visa (less than 10 years at least) should not cost anything close to that.

If only! More than 1,000,000 won for a two year visa. Next, another 1,000,000 won plus for permanent residence. Finally, another 1,000,000 won plus for citizenship and a few smaller bits and pieces that add a bit more to the price. Also, the fees have risen approximately 66% since 2006 - No inflation level increases in Britain!

Canada is around $1100 CDN for permanent residency -- also about one million won.

It's pretty much the same principle as buying a passport: Why do these countries charge so much? Because they can!

They can charge so much because at least in the U.S., we vote for the boneheads who set the fees! We have no one to blame but ourselves, the voters, for the way things are...we put many of these idiots into office.(But who is smarter..the voters or "votee." I guess if we are electing these knuckleheads....that makes us voters not to swift!?)

I got my F-5 practically for free .... just some paperwork.

I see no reason to ask for such exuberant amounts of money.

Not to forget the cost of the medical at an approved facility, vaccinations and police background checks. And trips to the embassy/various offices.

I think those prices are a bit high. My fiancee will be moving to Germany with me later this year. As far as I have been made aware, it should cost around 50 to get her residency permit.....we will have to show that we have enough dough to support ourselves and have to get private health insurance which is pricey but the fees for the residence permit itself are low....this may be an anomaly created by the right to freedom of movement within the EU.
