Hey all
I am a first time teacher rolling into Jeonju in about one week. It is my understanding that there might not be that many foreigners over there so I was hoping to get some insight on meeting some friendly peepz. Also, any advice on what I should be doing to set up my new life in the first couple days would be great (internet, banking). Lastly, is there anything lacking in Jeonju that might be feasible for me to bring from home (power converters, vitamins et al)?
Thanks |

Hi there-
I'm a Jeonju person. There's more foreigners here than I expected! Definitely bring power adapters/converters from home- it's just easier that way. But things power strips you can find easily of course. I've seen quite a variety of vitamins at the E-Mart department store- but they do cost more than back home. If you don't feel like lugging them with you, though, they can be found, and if you're looking for higher quality/better deals you can also order online.
Setting up banking will probably require you to wait until you get your alien card- it can take a few weeks. Your school should take care of that for you. For internet I just called KT's International service (also for TV), they have an English line and don't require an alien card (passport is okay). Another poster here gave me that number- I'll look it up and get back to you.
Jeonju is a nice city and the weather is just getting nice (finally)! Let me know if you have other questions before then, and I'd be happy to meet you (I'm a researcher her and my husband is a new teacher for the public schools). |

There are tons of foreigners in Jeonju, and a pretty solid community as well.
Where you should go in the first few days depends on where you'll be. Which part of the city? (which 'dong', so to speak)
You should definitely check out the jeonjuhub.com, which has a ton of useful info for you.
You can buy small power adapters at the department stores here (emart etc), but it wouldn't hurt to bring a small one with you. Also, there isn't a costco in Jeonju, so you might actually consider packing some of your favorite western food if you're not going to hit seoul anytime soon. |

Hey thank you both for the advice. Sorry for the late reply, things are kinda hitting the fan over here ever since I got my Visa. I am really excited to get over there on Monday. daemyann I believe I will be living in Wansan-gu and I am checking out the hub website for sure, thanks. I would really like to meet up with you taobenli and have you show me around a little.... cuz to be honest, I won't have a clue when I get over there. All the phone numbers and directions I can get the better. So how do I contact you? Again thank you both for your help. |
