hello im about to order a 500$ US laptop from ebay which is brand new (ASUS Brand) and have it shipped to korea, just curious if anyone knows how much ill have to pay in duties when it arrives in Korea

If you have someone in the US take it out of it's box and then mail it you has a gift then you needn't have to pay any duties on it.

it's coming from eBay so that's not really an option

You'll get charged 10% of the total price, unless things have changed in the last several years. Make sure the seller includes an invoice with a clearly marked total. This usually isn't a problem if you're buying from a company, but I don't about the sellers on eBay.

I bought a $2700 laptop late last year from the US and had to pay 216,000W for import duty. Seems to be a flux between 8-12% tax.

Weird, I have bought numerous things from international sites. I have never paid any duty on them...What happens? Do they keep it until you pay?
