I watch Real Time with Bill Maher pretty often, although I hate Bill Maher. I agree with most of his views, but I find him obnoxious. I mostly watch his show because he often has good guests and decent discussions which are considerably less limited than other shows.
One thing I have noticed though, is that he seems pretty racist. Every time a black person is on his show, he asks something along the lines of "What's the black view of Obama's decision?" Any time he disagrees with Obama and he has a black guest, he'll refer to him as "your guy."
What's the deal? |

Dunno,
He is kid of racist yeah but I really enjoy his show. His stand-up is hilarious.
He's just a cynical modedit that doesn't care about being pc a lot of the time.
I think he is great. |

I understand not being pc. My problem is just that all of his jokes about Obama have to do with his race and that every black celebrity on his show is asked about black people instead of current events. |

Maher's no racist.
He's been around for a long time.
I love him to death, first and foremost because he's been supporting libertarian and decidedly ANTI PC views for a long long time.
Believe it or not, during the Presidency of Bill Clinton, Maher would criticize him and the Democrats a lot of the time, not for Willy's sexual peccadillos mind you, but for the usual political correctness so prevalent among so many sectors of that party.
Then right after 9/11, on his ABC show (this was a big career success, a network show) he had the GUTS to say something completely true:
he challenged the Bush administration on calling the 9/11 terrorists as "cowards". He correctly pointed out that deliberatly flying into a building at several hundred miles and hour may be many things, but it is NOT "cowardice".
Guess what? the pea brained Republicans went crazy - flooded the network with protests - you heard the usual nonsense of "why do you hate America" etc etc and the network cancelled his show.
He has managed to come back strong on HBO, and now is often, unsurprisingly a blistering critic of all things idiotically Republican, though not so much because they're Republican, but because 99% of today's Republicans are complete idiots (this comes from me, an ex Republican myself)
between all the Jesus freaks, the freedom fries why do you hate america crowd and the anti homosexual congressmen who then get caught with men, there's just too much delicious material not to dig deeply into it.
Can you really blame the guy?
He's one of my all time favorites. |

I agree with all of this. I'm pretty liberal. I'm a died in the wool atheist. I disagree with some of his peta views, but overall I agree with his environmental views.
I don't however agree with his demeanor towards black people. I don't care about pc, but he has a weird I'm liberal so I'm cool with you and I can say anything I want mentality that unsettles me. |

I know exactly what you mean and that mentality bugs the hell out of me.
That's one of the many things that bother me about liberals. Conservatives do a variation of this too and that pisses me off too.
I don't know what bothers me more, liberal pseudo-intellectuals or neoconservative republicans. |

I know how you feel, but I'd give the nod to the neocons, as they are more likely to spread disinformation to advance their agenda.
On the other hand, I have a theory that there are many republicans who are actually closer to the democrats on most issues, but just can't stomach being associated with pompous liberal pseudo-intellectual types. |

At least the former doesn't encourage us to invade countries. |

Bill Maher is a self-righteous c+cksucker like a lot of celebrities. Funny sometimes, though |

Maher is an elitist and he is smug. Sara Palin is dim and has no business being in national politics, but her family doesnt deseve to be called white trash repeatedly show after show. I have a problem with him calling Americans stupid as if the US is the only country that has stupid people. Some of his stuff is funny and I agree with some of his politics ( although its really just common sense). |

A lot of his viewpoints are correct, but honestly, I find his jokes somewhat irritating. For example here's an article he wrote which I find myself agreeing with (primarily since it expresses a viewpoint I myself have often expressed). None the less, it's peppered with unfunny, boarderline annoying jokes. |

I think people have a real problem with Maher because he really is a free thinker. This often leads him to be confrontational as well. He's one of the brightest and funniest commedians out there.
Bush gave an interview and he said people will vote for him because 'They've seen me weep, theyve seen me laugh, and theyve seen me hug.' These are the same qualifications for a Tickle Me Elmo.
Fame has sent a number of celebrities off the deep end, and in the case of Michael Jackson, to the kiddy pool.
A lot of good has come from drugs. I think 'Penny Lane' is worth 10 dead kids. Dark Side of the Moon is worth 100 dead kids. Because a lot of kids wouldn't even be born if it weren't for that album, so it evens out. |

Interesting strategy. You call Maher one of the "brightest and funniest commedians (sic) out there" and then you post some quotes that show just the opposite. |
