Hello, I'll be arriving in Changwon tomorrow. Can anyone tell me about Changwon or working at Changwon Towol High School?
Thanks in advance. |

You could do a lot worse than Changwon.
What do you want to know? |

Nothing, except it was a planned city. |

Last year I taught in a small rural area. I've never lived in a city. Is Changwon like Busan or Daegu but smaller? Is it just building upon building or are there open areas? Is Changwon near the ocean? Are there a lot of "western" style stores? Or would I have to go to Busan for that?
Regarding the school I don't know anything about the school; co-teachers, environment, whether it's co-ed, how many students there are, etc. |

OK. I can work with this.
Changwon isn't really like Busan or Daegu. It's quite large, and it is well planned but it is quite sterile in some ways. It is super clean and easy to navigate, but there isn't that much culture here. What ever that means. The ex pat scene is quite vibrant but very cliquey. There are millions of cool people here but also a few weirdos.
It's not close to the ocean, but there is heaps of green. A billion places to go walking and hiking. Compared to most Korean cities, Changwon is jam packed with parks. It's a genuinely relatively attractive place to live. You should look on google maps to get a feel for the city and where your school is. But be warned, the images were taken about 4 years ago so, in some areas, are hopelessly out of date.
There are some decent stores, Lotte Dept, City 7even mall. The shopping ain't great though. Busan is a 30 min bus ride away, so it's no biggy. There are some OK restaurants. Bombay makes very good Indian. Also Maya, which is more Koreanafied Indian, but still delicious, and 2/3rds the price of Bombay. Maybe cheaper if you factor in drinks.
I don't know anything about your school. See if you can get their website address. Most schools have a slick website that is un-navigable and only works on internet explorer. |

Changwon is great.... planned like what was said, and everything easy to get to.... it's right next to Masan, which is where I was, but had easy access to the planned Changwon.
From what I saw at least the center of most of the action were the bars around where OBriens was located. I think they have a group on facebook....
Good times, good times... |

Where are the gyms in Changwon/Gimhae/Masan? Are there many?
I mean weightlifting gyms, not cardio gyms.
Any info please? |
