I am part-way through my second year but have applied for a job that I would probably take if it was offered to me. It starts in the summer, by which point I will have been with my current school for 17 months.
I am a bit worried about asking my school for a reference because they might see me as being uncommitted to my work with them. How do public schools tend to react to a teacher leaving mid-contract? |

... but you're not really committed to your work with them, are you?
Anyway, I was under the impression that public schools do not give reference letters.
I would think that they would be understandably upset. Have they mistreated you? |

they are not required to give you a reference letter.
they ARE required to give you proof of employment showing:
Your personal id information
start date
end date (or current date if still working)
School contact information and school stamp.

They have not mistreated me at all and I am happy to be working at my school. I have worked very hard for them, I work with commitment and would continue to do so should I not get the job I have applied for. That's as committed as one needs to be, in my opinion.
I think "upset" is a little bit emotive, I would not pull a runner and would give plenty of notice so I think it would be perfectly reasonable to request a reference for the work I have done. |
