My neighbor's dog is constantly barking. Other neighbors and the landlord have already talked to the owners, who say the dog is a watchdog and they want it to bark. In fact it's barking as we speak. It's disturbing my sleep and my sanity.

I've heard that people go to the police about this, but I'm wondering if that will get anywhere? Is it worth the time and effort? Anything else I can try?

I make a habit of barking at dogs that bark at me. Go out onto your balcony and make loud barking noises. Loop it over on a loud speaker if you have to.

You should go pay Newman a visit. He'll fix your problem.

This is quite clearly the best solution. I hear there's a Loud Dog Rescue Facility (LDRF) in Gangnam.

I went for a 2am walk up a mountain last night in the rain for some stupid reason, found some temple, went to investigate but a dog caught me and started barking. This set off the another dog alarm nearby, which continued to awake 50 other dog alarms. Within a minute most of Korea was barking and I was hiding in a dark woodland area up the mountain with little light until they stopped. Which they didn't. Just got home.

There's a great little Korean film called 'Barking Dogs', or 'Flanders Gae' in Korean. One of the main protagonists shares your problem, he catches the dog (belonging to an old woman) and throws it from the top of his appartment building.
Not that I condone that action, there's probably a more humane way to dispose of it.

High pitched electronic devices work and are operated by remote or sensor, or both. They may be illegal to import as they are electronic devices, but may be sold or imported easily (not sure, but they exist here).

Stealing the dog or giving it rat poison is an obvious option, but are you the one to do it? Sanity > kae?

my grandmother bought a watchdog. it would bark at the postman, at the policeman, at any man, woman or child. it fulfilled its role in alerting her, and the rest of the street to any potential human presence within a 5 mile radius of her front door. it actually foiled some burgular once.
then the next door neighbours had enough, and fed it slug poison.

seriously.

Shoot it and cook it.

But don't forget to offer the (once) owners some of your 'stew'.

I have a similar situation, though my neighbor's dog is locked in their bathroom above me and constantly paws the loose door, so it's more of a bang, bang, bang than a bark, bark, bark.

I'll tell you what I did: I got earplugs. I tried everything else and nothing changed, so I guess the neighbors won. Hope you can sleep with things in your ear.

You (and your other neighbors ) have to deal with the barking...so create a problem for your (dog owning) neighbors....

Crap in a bag and eloquently yet casually dump it right outside of their front door in the hall or on the stairs (not sure the building type) every single day, and....if you are lucky:

A) They will step in it.
B)The barking dog may become too busy smelling and not barking.
C) They will get the blame for the dog crapping in the hall or around the building and not cleaning up after it.

PS...make sure there is no CCTV or you will be on SBS this week.
