I had a friend who taught ESL in France. He was required to take a french language competency test before they would let him teach. I think you needed to have an equivalent to 2 years of university study on the language.

WHICH all brings me to the point, is this similar in Spain? I'd be very curious about it all as well. And I second BoholDriver's request. Whats the word?

Sure, the ESL expat center in Madrid seems to be J&J books. you can email them so you dont have to rely solely on me.

Spain equals EU equals no americans without a petiton, yet there seem to be many Americans working here.

I was at JJs during happy hour but didnt talk to anyone becuause I am shy.

the schools want CELTA

I knew an American woman back home who taught illegally in Spain for over a year after taking that ESL course in Prague. She said it was low pay working without a visa, but makes a fun working holiday. EU doesn't want Americans unless they are bringing a large sum of money to invest on a business visa. The immigration barrier is in place to prevent a situation of Americans inundating Europe.

teaching in spain is low pay but better than asia since they're more laid back and you get more vacation time. i would definitely recommend europe to asia...london is also cool but expensive.
