Hi all.
I am going to be looking for a new job in a few months, to start in August/September time. With the current economic climate, I am freaking out about what to expect in terms of job offers. Here's a little about myself:
I have four years teaching experience, two of them in Seoul for SMOE. The school I am currently at is a private Girl's High School, (not too sure if that makes a difference but I thought I'd mention it.) I have a CELTA, and a degree in English Language and Creative Writing. I also have six months experience being a part time teacher's assistant in the UK, (this was once a week for just a few hours.) I have experience in exam prep, which was for FCE, CAE and TRINITY exams which are big in Europe but not so much here. Oh, and yes I am a young blonde female, (although I hate to admit that this might help me get a job ) although I am from the UK which might hinder my chances in regards to accent.
So what can I expect in terms of jobs? I want to stay in Seoul, and I was initially thinking applying for uni work (now I am not so sure if thats possible). If I was staying with SMOE I would be on 2.4 mill next year, so I would be looking for work either the same or higher. Other than that I am pretty open. A uni would (obviously) be amazing, but I am open to other stuff too.
Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated. After hearing stories from other people with loads of experience finding it hard to get jobs, I am concerned about my chances of finding something I want.
Thanks again! |

You could apply for the Gangnam school district. Starting salary is 2.6, 900,000 housing allowance (no housing provided) and 6 weeks vacation for elementary school, 4 weeks for middle and high school. The only downside is you don't get any sort of renewal bonus like airfare or anything. I think if you work at a middle or high school, you get 2 weeks vacation, but I'm not sure.
They should be hiring for September and they usually post ads in the jobs section. Requirements in the past have been 2 years experience and a TESOL cert. |

| If your experience is post CELTA you could apply to the British Council in Seoul. They offer a better package than public schools and most universities. |

I should have said I am not really interested in looking for public school work again. Oops. Gangnam is an option if I really can't find something I like, but I would like to look into all other options first before I consider that.
The British Council is something I hadn't even thought about before. All my teaching is post CELTA (except my experience in the UK) so thanks for the tip, I'll have to look into it! |
