|
|
So it looks like my original recruiter has let me down and I'm going to have to arrive in Korea without a job.
I have my flights booked and I can stay with my girlfriend in Seoul till I get a job.
Another problem is that I can't get a visa from the Korean embassy in the U.K (as I don't have a job/contract).
So does anyone know if I only need to go to the Korean embassy in Japan and I can get my visa within 2 days there? Or do I still need to have some sort of an interview with the Korean embassy in the U.K for general approval, regardless of whether I have a job or not?
Any help is greatly appreciated. |

I wouldnt come without a job.
You can't do Japan runs anymore. You can get a VISA withen 48 hours though. I lived in LA California. I went in one afternoon and the next afternoon the visa was ready. |

If this is your first E2 then the Japan run may NOT be an option for you.
There was talk of eliminating the consular interview but I don't know if the policy has indeed changed yet/
I assume that you have all the other required documents with the apostille affixed to same.
It may be possible to avoid the visa run back to your home country and just pop over to Japan but I wouldn't depend on it.
Good luck...

There is a way. I know of other posters saying that they were able to get their degree verified while in Korea and just had to go to Japan. Hopefully one of them will speak up, but if not comb through the vastness of Dave's till you come across something. |

The Japan visa run can be done overnight. I went last month, took the ferry from busan to fukuoka in the morning, arrived at the embassy around 2pm, submitted my application, picked it up at 9.30 am the next day, back on the ferry.
As far as I know if it is your first time to get an E2 visa, then you still have to have an interview at the Korean embassy in your home country.
Make sure you get all your documents ready before you come to Korea, it can be a royal pain in the ass to try and sort it out from this end... |

I wouldn't risk it. Even if it is possible to do the Japan run still, the school will send you to Japan when it is convient for them.
Hence your visitor visa may of expired by the time they send you and you will be fined or such, or working without a propper E-2. In this case no medical, pension, severence.
Do thhings right and avoid a headache later. |

Thats true... sometimes this happens. However, you can refuse to teach until you have been to Japan to get the visa (seeing as its completely illegal)... that will sort them out. Theyll either send you asap or theyll make up some bull and youll have to find another job. Either way, itll be sorted.
My tourist visa was 90 days, plenty of time to find a job and go to Japan. Although I heard USA only gets 30 day tourist visas?? |

Changed now as of last year! American's get 90 tourist visas as of now! But as the other poster mentioned, you need to do an interview within your home country if you have never taught in Korea before! |
