Christ, I'm such a clot. I went to the ATM, keyed in all the info as per usual but I was distracted by a phone call, so I didn't take the cash from the machine and I walked away.
What happens if you don't take it? Does the machine close and the money is debited to your account?
I'm guessing the next man took it and will be having his next meal on me. It was only 30,000 but I still kicked myself. |

I did the same thing, but during banking hours. I went back a minute later and tried to use the machine, but having left the cash in, it malfunctioned (did you try to go back and see what happened to it?). The attendant then came in and gave me my cash without question. I think they can see what happened. |

This WILL happen to me one day.
I would go to the bank and say the ATM malfunctioned. |

Actually, I went back about 15 minutes later and there was a maintenance guy opening it up. Too late now I guess. |

Yeah, I think leaving cash in busts it. Your account will probably get credited. |

Hello,
Please ask a Korean-fluent friend or co-worker to write your concern in the Korean language. After that, take the note to where you opened your account. There, show your bank account card, the bank book, Alien Registration Card, and your passport to the clerk and ask her/him to search the C.C.T.V. at or near the A.T.M. for the purpose of getting your money back from the bank.
If she/he refuses your politely-worded request, then point to the guy or gal who'd be likely seated at the back of the room staring at a computer monitor/screen. All you could do in that situation is show the nicely-worded letter to her/him, cross your fingers for good luck, and then, hopefully, wait for her/him to make it Right.
If you don't get your cashola, then get the same Korean-fluent person to make a letter for the Supervisor's boss. Next, return to the bank and show the letter to the same clerk if possible, and watch that bank's manager run over to you with your cashola for you and an apologetic and nervous smile on her/his face. |

Please think of my post as simple advice for anyone who experiences this type of situation.
For what it is worth, the Kookmin Bank at Cheongdam Station in Seoul City is supervised by one of the very best persons I have ever met in the world: Cool, smart, kind, and very helpful, he is the epitome of Professionalism and Humanity - an excellent person for sure.
Carry on.

I went back to the ATM, and there was a cell number. I got the missus to call him and I will be refunded later. Apparently, leaving your money does indeed send the machine into shutdown. I guess that's a countermeasure for people like me forgetting their cash.
So all's well that ends well, I suppose. Gracias mi hermanos. |

Point taken; but 30k is 30k.
Hmmm, I'd love to find 30 grand in me pocket from you, and if you've 30 grand to throw around, then throw it my way. I'd be totally psyched because of your liberal regard to the 30k. |

Funny. The exact same thing happened to me once. I was talking to a pretty co worker and somehow lost track of what I was doing. Anyways, I go to 7 11 to buy a drink, open up my wallet to see it empty. I quickly ran back to the bank machine (almost getting run over by cars in the process) to see some ajjumma do something at the machine I was at and then go back to another machine. I thought dammit, she took it! I was furious but there was nothing I could do. I just admitted that I was dumb and lost 100,000 won
anyways, fast forward a couple of days and my work place gets a call from my bank. The money was left in the KB machines which automatically close after a set time (1 minute or so)
So they had my money which went back in my account and I didn't lose anything. true story. |

Those bank machine programmers think of every possible situation. They're a bunch of sharp people. |

I did the same thing, leaving 200,000. I didnt find out either until I went to open my wallet to pay for wine. By then I was a bus ride away from the ATM machine I had used. I went back to the machine, by now it was about an hour later, and called the service line listed next to the machine.
They found an English speaker for me and closed down the machine. They sent out a guy who had the machine do a count to find out if the machine had put the money back into circulation. In which case, you will get a call from the bank saying your money had been found.
Turned out there was no extra money. But, they gave me a number to call in on Monday morning. I called them and asked if they could check the CCTV cameras to find out what happened.
Turns out the guy next to me saw me leave without taking my money, so he reached over and took it. Well he had already put his card in the machine next to it, so they had his account number and contact info. They called him and had him wire the money back to my account.....asah!!! |

Happened to me too. I left 200,000 won in the machine, walked into the bank, took a number and sat down to wait for a teller to pay my bills. Ajumma comes storming into the bank 30 seconds later, waving my fistfull of cash and asking (I presume) what dummy left his cash in the machine. Ah, that would be me. Kam sam ni da. |

How do you leave the money in the machine?
The ones I use won't even show you the money until you physically take the card out of the machine. Then the drawer opens up with the cash. Then it beep LOUDLY at you until you remove the cash.
Some other machines won't show the money drawer until you take the receipt first.
You already have 1 hand close the the machine o grab your card or your receipt, how do you forget to move it 6 inches to the cash drawer? |
