Hi guys.... I am currently looking for a job in Korea, and I'm finding it really difficult.
I had a good job last year but I was forced to leave when the hagwon closed down for financial reasons. The thing is, that job was easy to get because one of my friends worked there already and the process was incredibly smooth. Now, I have sent off e-mails, resumes and photos to around 10 recruiters... and only 2 have got back to me (and even then they haven't offered much yet). My resume is pretty tight, even though I only have 5 months experience and I can write a decent cover letter... I just don't get it.
Can anybody offer any kind of explanation as to why I'm not getting replies from these people? The way I understand it they make shedloads of money from every teacher they place, so you would think they would be desperate to reply... or have I got that completely wrong? Are there too many people applying right now? I've only been trying for a week... should I just simply be more patient?
Or alternatively does anyone know of any decent jobs starting in June or July?
Any help greatly appreciated.... |

| Are you in Seoul, which is a poor place to look now? For what are you applying? How old are you? What nationality are you? What positions have you NOT applied for? |

Is it really coming to this? Are jobs this hard to find?
I hope not! Pick a recruiter's ad, pick a job from it, tell them you want that one. Don't tell them about your lofty goals and ideal job (not that you are necessarily doing that). Get the interview, take the job!
It can't be getting this tough out there, can it?
If so, good for the Korean kids! Bad for the hopeful newbie. But I don't think it is that bad yet. Is it? |

Agreed. Dont wait for the rectruiter to find a suitable job for you (if possible). Theres more chance of being placed in a job that you choose, rather than they suggested because obviously youre already interested in applying for it. The recruiters tend to pay more attention, and because youre showing interest in the school, the school is more interested in you.
Id say your prob is not that there arent any jobs, but just that the recruiters suck. I joined about 10-12 agencies and I would say only 3-4 of them were worth working with.. Good recruiters will contact you regularely, be ok with you rejecting jobs (even a lot of them), and wont pressure you into applying, taking interviews or accepting jobs youre not keen on. |

I've been working closely with Korvia Recruiting for the past 2-3 weeks and I highly recommend them. Ann has been really nice and patient with me. Shoot them an email and fill out an online application form. They will get back to you ASAP. Also, YouniKorea was pleasant as well.
