|
|
Hi I've heard of the IME program that allows your computer, even in the English language Windows operating system to function fully as a foreign language computer (or pretty close to it) such as Korean, Chinese, Jpns etc...
Is it free? Where can I download a good copy of it? Also, does it function ONLY as a program on your system tray? It doesn't actually become a "part" of your operating system (i.e. become a part of your registry) does it? I thought I once read of someone trying to uninstall it but they found it was unremoveable and went deeper into the OS than a regular basic program, or is that a misunderstanding? Thanks alot. |

If you have XP it's already on your CD, just change the language settings in the control panel and have your CD ready. For Win98 you need to download it from MS Windows Update site. Not sure about ME and 2000, might be on the Cd or you might have to download. |

It's integrated into Windows 2000 as well, but the execution is not as good as XP IMHO.

hmm that kinda explains it, I use Windows ME. So then I guess I need to go over to the Microsoft Update site. Only problem is that it sounds like what I didn't want -- that the IME feature becomes a part of your operating system and is deeply imbedded. With that I see problems, as you know with any program that operates in your background it interferes with many other things, such as video capture devices, sometimes chat windows and even video games will crash because of those things. An example would be the Norton security programs that crash so many things when they run and have to be fully exited (closed and exited). Anyways thanks for advice. |

Ah good, I had a query about this.
I have a Japanese OS and Japanese/Roman keyboard and have IME installed for both Korean and Japanese input. BUTTTTTTT
I cannot for the life of me figure out how to input Korean phonetically. My keys seem to be coded really wierdly.
Am I stuck with this or is there a way round this? Help much appreciated... |

You can't enter phonetically, you need to know Korean keyboard layout. |

Hey people, well I went to Microsoft Update. I am using Windows ME so I clicked Tools, then Update, and there was a nice list of stuff I need to download and install. Unfortunately I didn't see anywhere at all anything related to IME language device. I am not sure where else I could download it. I am thinking of trying some shareware websites however I wanted to verify here first because as you know, with many programs there are 5+ versions and some might not work, or have bugs, etc. Therefore would appreciate any advice on which version to get and where's the best place to download it. Thanks. |

you can get a copy in the underground tunnel to the Yongsan Electronics market. There's a guy with software titles posted on the wall. Just tell him you want "Windows XP English language pack" and he'll get a copy for you in less than 5 mins....Make sure you get the language pack not the XP OS...
I got a copy for 10,000 won and it works like a charm... |

Are you joking, Arthur? If not, could you explain a bit more? I can't figure out why someone would make the trip to Yongsan and pay for something that is freely and legally available for download on the internet. |
