Hi guys,

I'm in the market for a new monitor. I don't really want to spend more than 300,000 if possible. What are the best options at that price point?

I'll be using a pretty old desktop with Core Duo and Nvidia 8500GT graphics. It'll be running Ubuntu 10.10.

Cheers Smile

Depends on the size or resolution you want.

Go to HiMart / E-Mart and write down the model names you like. Then go on Gmarket or a computer website and find cheaper prices.

Samsung and LG are both great brands. I prefer Samsung for gaming.

300,000w should get you a nice monitor. If you want full HD, really high contrast or 2ms response time, the high quality ones start around 400,000w for 23 inch. It's also possible you might find one of these on sale somewhere for 300,000ish.

Try to get an IPS panel if you are more into movies......or a TN panel if you're more into games.

IPS cost a bit more but will be worth it if you really value HD.

My 27'' LG monitor (TN) (can also be used as a TV as it has a tuner built-in) is quite good but I feel HD movies could look a bit better.........I see it's only 390,000 at the moment.....That's a good price for 27''.......27'' is about perfect for a desktop monitor....you an comfortably put 2 web pages side-by-side.......games and movies look fantastic when just 1 meter from your face.

How far away do you sit from your monitor?

I have a Samsung B2030 and find that as a desktop it is almost too large to be comfortable (1 size smaller would have been better) but my face is slightly less than a full arm's length from the monitor.

If you are more than arms length away then a 20-23" would be fine. The 20" wide versions run about 150k won.

IF you plan to use it for watching movies from across the room go for the 23" or larger versions or a small TV with vga or hdmi video inputs.

I got a Samsung earlier this year and really like it. Nice styling and good image. The 22" synchmasters are about 240,000 on gmarket, 1080P

Interpark lists the LG MX2262 (22") at just under 290,000. I have the MX2762 (27") and I like it. It comes with a TV Tuner and remote. However, I think 27" is a bit too big for a desktop monitor. I'm always sitting a bit back from my table when playing games or surfing. I live in a one-room though so it's great for sitting in bed and watching tv or movies.

Back in the states I used a 22" Samsung (I forgot the model number -- it's no longer in production anyway). It was great. After awhile, I felt it was a bit too small. In hindsight, it's really fine. If you can find a quality 24" screen I'd go for that if you want a little more size but for day-to-day computing: 22" seems to be the sweet spot. As it was posted earlier you can easily find a good 22" monitor around the 240,000 price point.

If you're like me and will be using it as a TV, I would spring for the 27" display. My monitor cost me 425,000 from joyzen.co.kr -- you should be able to get for less on Danawa.

Thanks for all the great info guys. I've seen a Samsung 23" on Gmarket for 250,000 that I think I'm going to go for.

I already have a PDP so I don't need it for TV or video, it will be purely for web browsing.
