What worked out to be the more efficient option? Going with a recruiter or applying directly?

I don't think it really mattered. I started with Epik in february and I used a recruiter but I met many people at orientation who applied directly with Epik and our experiences were pretty similar. Interviews and placements are granted on a first come basis regardless of which route you use. Be prepared for a long wait before you officially find out that you have been accepted. I had my interview mid Oct, my documents were sent a week later and I got my NOA in January. All the NOA's are sent out around the same time. The wait is nerve wracking but it's worth it. My experience so far has been great and I am happy that I chose Epik over a hagwan.
