Hi There,

It is quite possible to shop there. The prices seem reasonable at times.

There is also a Costco.

Just browse the streets for clothing and there might be some discounted stuff in the department stores.

The DFO has brand labels and some expensive stuff duty free.

Meanwhile if you can go to the small island you can see from the beach, I think it is called Turtle Island. Snorkle the far side.

There is a guy set up on the beach down from the Hyatt that has reasonable prices for day trips etc.

Shop around for tours....and you shop duty free you can take the DFO duty free store) bus around the island for free. It's not too big to explore.

I didn't find Saipan at all reasonable for anything. At least double the price to Korea for just abouyt everything. Taxis are ridiculous and the local buses don't go far.

I didn't see a Costco there, but there were some large supermarkets with good selection. Not good prices, though.

Managaha (sp?) Island is where people do their snorkelling. When I went there, there were 90% Koreans and 10% locals. Ridiculously expensive food and ice cream.

Must-see? It's a nice island. There are some nice beaches and stuff. I'd say just enjoy the weather and the people. I loved the people. Polite, laid-back.

Hi There,

Welcome back to the west...I didn't expect the prices to be the same as Korea or South East asia.

It is a tourist island after all.

Didn't mean to give the wrong impression in that respect, sorry.

I'm glad to offer advice but...why not do a google search first? There are all kinds of sites, e.g., Lonely Planet. Then you might ask about something specifc. Not pickin' on ya personally, it's just that so many posters do this....

Yep, Saipan is pricey. But if you do go, don't even THINK of leaving the place without seeing(even if you're not a WW II/history buff) the suicide cliffs, the Last Command Post, the seaside memorials, and the great view of Bird Island.
