I've been back in Korea for about 6 weeks now and am having major problems with my skin. It's like being a teenager all over again, I'm breaking out like crazy. I know that stress can cause break outs, but I'm not stressed.

Anyone else have this happen to you? Any tips on getting rid of adult, Korean brought on acne?

The same has happened to me and a couple of my friends. Some Koreans I know told me it was the bad air quality and to make sure I cleansed thoroughly night and day!

I'm always told to try the herb shops that are apparently all over the place.

I haven't stopped having Acne since I was about 13 though so it's guaranteed not to work for me, I have mediication from back home to last a couple of months.

See, I'm not sure if it's Korea, the detox stuff I'm on, the fact that I'm off the pill, or what. Either way, I'm WAY too old for this. I'll try the herbal shops, but can't really take medicine utnil I'm done with this detox stuff.

Going back on the pill would be an excellent start. Tetracycline would be difficult to get here.

Oh. 축하합니다. Mazel tov. Dr. Internet recommends five days of corticosteroids (prednisone (프레드니솔론) makes me happy) to reduce the inflammation, vitamins to offset the immunodeficiency caused by the prednisone, and tetracycline for the acne.

I use Doxycycline, works for me until i forget a single day and then I die of acne.

It isn't Korea exclusive, that's certain. If you see Asians who come over to England for study or whatever, you will notice their skin flames up pretty bad. I remember my housemate's Chinese girlfriend complaining about how smooth her skin used to be.

It's not that quality of air or whatever per se, It's more the *difference*

I'm hoping it's just the change of countries. I'm not too sure I want to take pills or medicine for acne. Looking for a more natural route. Maybe it'll just clear up by itself

Living by your user name, it seems. I only went to pills because I've been stuck with it for so long and it's basically ruined my life, so yeah for sudden change I'm sure the herb shops'll have something to rub with =\

Yep, that and a couple of other things,
I don't want to be dependent on pills
My husband and I will be trying to get pregnant shortly and I don't want to be on any type of medication at all.

I'll try the herbal shops.

Or you could eat some chicken soup, which wouldn't work either, but at least it's got chicken.

it's an acute allergic response (i forgot the medical term for that).
take some allergy medicine like benedrin or claritin... and better yet, go see a doctor asap.

The water here is full of pollutants.....heavy metals, industrial run-off, even things like arsenic and cyanide (the last two obviously in miniscule amounts). I would recommend getting ahold of some good soap......something like Clarins or Lush soap (both expensive options, particularly so in Korea) which are very good for sensitive skin types. Additionally, it could well be due to airborne irritants, in which case you might want to try some antihistamines. Aside from that, it could just be that your immune system is responding to the plethora of colds doing the rounds at the moment.....it may take a few months to subside in that case.

Basically though if it doesn't get any better within a couple more weeks, I would suggest finding a local dermatologist and getting their advice......maybe you're having an allergic reaction to a foodstuff or something in your apartment.
