Any opinions? I wanna work somewhere low(ish) hours, where I'll get paid fairly, somewhere reasonably modern, close to Busan or Seoul...with a decent expat community... |

With lots of sick days!
Come on, you must be trolling.
You claimed you missed/failed your job interview because you were sick. Now your wanting OTHERS to find YOU a job with low(isn) hours, with fair pay in a reasonably modern place near Busan or Seoul.
Come on! This is a SOCK. |

Yes there are people who can be nice, but when the question begs to answered dickishly, do not be surprised.
Come on your question is like th classic woman asking where can I find a handsome man, with a high figure salary, that wants 3 children and will put up with my average or below looks. Even vice versa for men.
To answer your question simply. Yes you can likely find a job like that.
But....
Yet the people here are not going to answer it. I will not do the work for you ( I am lazy) and I get nothing out of it.
If I knew of such a job, I would either recommend it to someone one I know and like. Or I would try to profit it from it. So how much will you pay me to find a job like that for you?
Please come to the table with something more and people will give your some advice. They will not hand it to you. |

Misogynistic and jerk-ish answers aside, you are better off applying to every recruiter advertising on Dave's. Asking for advice on this website is like asking someone to hit you in the face with a bag of telephone books. As I am sad to discover, most people on here are miserable and would rather talk you out of coming to South Korea than give advice.
I'm new to this process too, so I am unable to give any recommendations beyond apply, apply, apply! Best of luck though. I hope you find something agreeable. |

God, I knew that reply was going to get taken wrong by some busy body. Did you not notice, the vica versa for men. I knew, I should have replied with a male orientated one.

Head telephone bag holder here! Yep, people will get slapped down and hard at times. Why do I and other people smack people down, like the above guy. It is because he asked a terrible question? Why is it terrible? First, it is too general. It is the like question "How long is a piece of string?" The answer really varies. And well me and every other person does not want to write and write to answer something so general. The guy did not even add details, like what he has done, specifics on what he wants, how he deserves this (qualifications) and heck just the detail of where he is? Second, his question reeks of gimme gimme attitude? I want this, please give it to me. Sorry why should I hand you something for nothing. Third, with the reek of gimme attitude comes laziness. Heck I am lazy, but the OP did not even post a good question or try to write anything serious. People do not come here to do other peoples work? The come here to give advice and sometimes very generally at times.
To add insult to injury, the OP has asked these kind of questions before. I replied sarcastically to them too, but I provided help. For example, he asked for information of seven cities! No specific questions on them, like the expat community, can I find a resturant. Not a simple polite hey I wiki-ed them. Plus it was a list, not a simple hey hat do people know about this one or two areas. It was people what do you think of these seven places. When I gave him advice on one city and told him how to search the board for the others. He replied with a 'where is my info?" It did not even look like he even researched. He did not come back with questions about the city?
If a person comes here and asks for some specific help and writes coherently. Gives details and shows some effort people will help.

Yes that is partially true, I do see a whole bunch of people recently trying to convince people to not come or go to China. Maybe some protectionism is happening with the longtimers. Me, I welcome any and all to come. Also this is the Internet it can get pretty mean or strange at times. But I have will only help or welcome people who are serious and capable adults. It seems the present crop has people who can not even wipe their bottom with out help or a diagram.
Please LHotler, this is not Facebook? This is a forum, where people need to ask serious thought out questions. Plus you need to toughen up a touch and takes those flying telephone books. People that post on here do not get paid for this or real pleasure. Well some for others, you just have to know how to please people.

Hey, where's Andy?
He called and said he's going to be late today. You will need to cover his first class.
But his class begins in 2 minutes! And look at his desk, I can't even find the books he uses for this class, it's a mess. You do know, I have 4 class of my own that I was going to prepare for during this time?
Music begins to play and teachers and kids scuffle to the classrooms.
50 minutes later~ teachers scuffle back to teachers' room.
Hey Andy, what's up?
Not much, I'm just finishing of this pizza and cider before my class begins. Want some?
Nahhh! I don't have time. I need to prepare for my classes. |

Skippy:
The comparison was just a bad one and reeks of every "nice guy" argument in human history The "oh now that I'm successful and you have three kids and sixty additional pounds, now you want me!" That's why it rubbed me the wrong way, personally. I saw the vise versa you added, but that doesn't prevent me from thinking it's a lame comparison.
Forgetting gender politics, my whole post was not aimed at you. I was just making a broader statement about what I have read over and over again on this forum, which is why I used qualifiers like "most" and "some." There are some people on this forum, especially people who have been part of it for a while, that give excellent advice. It's just that, even on dumb or broad questions like this, even a little bit of advice is appreciated. Or maybe saying something along the lines of "we are literally unable to help without any additional information" would be cool and civil. You are most assuredly right, no one is paid to baby-sit newbs or hold a recent college grad's hand through the whole process. But no one is paid to be an arse either
And heck yeah, the threads where people bash on Korea are so prevalent lately! Where people come on here asking if anyone has information on a school or some other innocuous thing and the responses are usually "just go to China!" Or "why would you ever want to come to this miserable place?"
I am glad you are not among their numbers. If I were fresh into just deciding to come to Korea and came to this forum first and read all these kinds of responses, I'd probably would run in the opposite direction like my hair was on fire. Which is probably the intended response most of those posts are intended for.
What I guess I'm getting at is, even though this is the Internet, it is still a unique community. Not many people outside of the ones living or working in South Korea know much at all about living or working in South Korea. So this place (along with a few others, but I'd argue this is the biggest active forum) is the central hub for new and old to the process and culture alike. And even dumb questions should receive some decorum because the advice of seasoned expats is all some people have |

hahahaha Mr Holter must be a a psychiatrist (or a psychic) he ascertained so much about me from my short post! You're in the wrong job mate.
Seriously though, I'm glad dudes like you have all your time eaten up keyboard-smashing, sitting by your computer waiting for the latest porn to download. It means I won't bump into you when I'm out and about in the real world.
WHY waste your valuable time responding with negativity and having a go at someone you've never met? Beats me. Answers on a postcard... |

For future reference, I'm most definitely a woman. And I was also *defending* you against people who were calling you a troll and a jerk. Thanks for proving them right. |
