Can they sink any lower? Maybe they had a reporter on the Cheonan.

Thanks, I'll be here all night.

Still remember how some Koreans were joking about V-Tech.

An idiotic article to say the least. There have been many ship/sub disasters that have received more attention than this Korean one. I bet, a lot of people remember the Kursk sinking.

I don't get the Times article. I thought the term "ground zero" referred
to where the atomic bombs the Americans dropped on Hiroshima and
Nagasaki detonated. So, did the Koreans rip it off from the World Trade
Centre bombing, or did the World Trade Centre Bombing people rip it
off from Oppenheimer and his crew?

There was a very, very similar sentiment in 2008 about Sungnyemun burning down.

Rolling Eyes

Lives were lost in this one, so I understand the sadness. But to compare a military/naval accident with a horrifying premeditated attack is a bit much.

The Korea Times wrote:
Lee worked with the C.G. Jung Institute of New York as a psychoanalyst when the United States was in collective shock after the worst ever terrorist attack on American soil in 2001.

So this qualifies her to compare the death of approx 3,500 people to the sinking of a boat?

The Korea Times wrote:
Ground Zero in New York and the sunken warship in the West Sea of Korea are two very different catastrophic disasters, when it comes to the magnitude of victims and the nature of the incidents.

The former were terrorist attacks masterminded by Osama bin Laden, taking 2,751 innocent lives. The latter led to 46 South Korean sailors left missing. So far, what caused the ship to sink that night was not been explained.

But in the Korean psyche everything bad that happens is the fault of outsiders, indirectly or directly. They have been victimised by outside forces yet again.

The difference between these two incidents is that the US attempted to go after those responsible for the 9/11 attacks while the Korean government is trying to cover it up and bury it in the fear that it would upset the North Koreans.

There is no parallel between the two.

What's amazing is that AFROK could totally destroy the North's military capabilities on their own without the need for USFK assistance. Yet they afraid of losing foreign investment and their financial rating in the case of a war.

Close but still doesn't reach the Marianas Trench of the article that was pulled from the Weekly World News.

Remember the U.S.S. Thresher

and then there was the other one...I can't remember and I'm not going to Wiki it...

Before that the big one was the SS Sultana at the end of the Civil War. 1800 Union soldiers, mostly ex-POWs on their way home, are killed when the ship's boilers explode. Now that's a tragedy.

SR- I think you meant the USS Maine when it went down in Havana Harbor, which caused the US to declare war against Spain to start the Spanish-American War.

But again, Korea is too scared to retaliated for the loss of its sailors in one of the biggest naval incidents in a very long time because it is scared that it will negatively affect its financial standing.

Yes, then it becomes a parallel.

No there was another sub that went down...I just wikid it...It was the USS Scorpion.

But yeah if they had compared the Cheonan to the Maine that might have had a whiff of respectability to it. But 9/11??? Good Grief KT.

Actually the KT has reached a new low in the fact that this story was not a new low, which it should have been.

you made a good point. the s.k. gov. has no guts when it's so obvious that the s.k. warship, cheonan, was attacked by a small n.k. submarine (more like a torpedo boat, undetectable). kim jung il ordered its navy to destroy a s.k. warship because a n.k. patrol boat was fired upon by a s.k. patrol boat for crossing the border called nll a couple of months ago. it's been a pattern that n.k. always retaliates. i feel sad that 46 young sailers, mostly born in 88, 89, 89, had to die in the freezing water.

btw, i like your avatar... he is so hot!!!
