So, here's my deal: I have my 100 hr. TESOL certification, background as a published writer, and about 3 years teaching experience, and experience living abroad but not in Korea. But I do have some basic Korean language skills. I''m through the first stage of the application process with EPIK. And I am wondering what perils to look out for in the job interview and I still have quite a few questions about the contract, living situation etc.
1) Will I be notified in my contract of what area I will be assigned to? What likelihood is there that you get your desired choice? How should I order my options.
I chose Seoul, and while I know its more competitive, I did see that it far outnumbered all of the other jobs available in other areas. I chose Busan as second. I would certainly like easy, quick access the city, arts, activities, and some expats, so how do you feel about chosing Gyeonggi-do province for a third choice. Do you still feel somewhat connected? I know there is a section on the form requring you to agree to "up to a 60 minute commute time" I would definitely like to avoid that if at all possible!
I like the things I hear about EPIK but I don't want to be dumped out in the middle of nowhere.
2) Is there any control over choice of living accommodations? Does EPIK, like some schools, provide pictures first? I have heard horror stories about co-ops, dorms, etc. I am fine with a small place. I have no interest in being placed in a dorm.
3) What other concerns are there to address during the interview? How much say do you have about the pay scale and other variables? What should you make sure to address in your phone interview?
Thank you for your time. This is all very new to me. |

Check the EPIK 2010 Application thread. Most of the information you've asked about is in there from people who have already done the interviews either in the past few days or in the past. Some good tips on what questions to expect and what information is discussed. |

Thanks. I'm searching through it and realizing I'm on page 4 of 17 and it's mostly just people talking speculatively. Haven't really heard any veteran answers. Could you suggest a general area to browse?
Thanks again. |

Towards the back. Most of us have only had the interviews in the last seven days. The speculation gets supported with actual experiences from about page 11 |
