Hi, I have read that some flat irons will not work in Korea even with an adaptor. Could anyone that is over there and has one they brought from the US that works, give me the brand? Thanks!

Leave your appliances at home.

You can get them here cheaply and won't have to worry about the different voltages (US is 110VAC and Korea is 220VAC) or carrying the weight in your baggage.

An iron will cost between 7-25k won (flat or steam) at any department store like e-mart or home-plus.

A curling iron is about 5-10k.
A hair dryer is about 7-15k

Most US appliances won't work here because of the difference in line voltage. You plug them in, they get hot and go pfffft when you burn it out.

If you have a flat iron at home that you like and use often then I would bring it with you. It won't take up that much space and you might have a really tough time finding a good one in korea. (Yes, you can buy flat irons for 20$ at E Mart but they might not do anything, depending on your hair.) It should work as long as you have a converter to switch the voltage, and not just an adaptor.

I wouldn't buy a hair product for these prices. When I went to check them out, I found that the hair items that were priced on the lower end were not quality instruments and can damage your hair.

A GOOD flat iron will run you about 40k-75k. I got a CHI-like flat iron for 55k at the E-mart near my sister's house. Most of the 7-25k won flat iron's are not ceramic and most girls I know wouldn't like to use them.

The brand I found was a VS, and it wasn't on sale. Perhaps in a couple weeks the price will go down.
