Hi!

I live in Busan, and despite my best efforts I haven't been able to locate a source for my favourite grains, couscous, bulgur and quinoa.

I'm going to be visiting Seoul in a couple of weeks, and I wanted to ask - is it possible to find them there? (if so, can you provide detailed directions?)

there is a south asian/middle eastern grocery in itaewon, i'm sure they'd have at least one of the things on your list. it's before what the book, just go toward the mosque, don't go to the *beep* house, and there it is.

Thanks! But, I've never been to Seoul before... so I'm not sure where "what the book" is, nor the mosque. Can you be more detailed?

I'm in Gangwon. I can't really be more accurate than
Itaewon Mosque. Itaewon is an area of central Seoul North of the Han. It has a metro stop named Itaewon.

I don't know about the other two, but you can definitely buy couscous at the Foreign Food Mart in Itaewon.

Directions:
Go to Itaewon stn exit 3.
Walk straight for about 200 yards until you see the first turn to the right with a 7-11 on the other side of the street.
Walk up that street and you will see the Foreign Food Mart on the left about 100 yards or less up the street. It's quite big and has a yellow sign (I think).
FYI, Hooker and Homo hill are right there too if you fancy either of those!
Also, What the Book is a little further than the Foreign Food Mart, also on the left downstairs.

I was at the Foreign food market just a couple of days ago, and they had boxes of couscous available. They also had many bags of different lentils and grains, but I don't know which ones. Good luck! That's where I get my frozen peas and garbanzo beans. Yummy!

I gave up looking for Bulgur and Quinoa. Someone did suggest having some shipped from home, and I was tempted...

Let me know if you can find some! I live in Seoul, and frequent the aforementioned shops, but no such luck

I don't know about your grains (because I think they are crap) but I am always on the hunt for foreign delicacies (like limes and fresh herbs).

I would also recommend Hannam mart, especially for the little deli store in the same basement (not open on sunday). to get to hannam mart: go to the hanganjin subway stop (next to Itaewon), go outside and you will see a huge overpass, head downhill and away from Itaewon, cross pedestrian bridge and contine walking downhill, Hannam mart is on your left (underground)

Also, there is a foreign food section at Lotte dept. store in Myeongdong (euljiro-1-ga subway stop on the green line) that is worth checking out.

The Kwangjung market (Jongno-4-ga, south side of the street, subway stop Jongno 3 ga or 5 ga) has some fun shopping. There are a couple small stores where everything appears to have been stolen from a U.S. military base. Nothing you can't get at the other stores mentioned but sometimes cheaper.

Finally, there is a place at coex mall called sweet spot or sweet source, very small, only worth visiting if you are in that area or what to buy pasta sauce on sale or japanese candy.

Did you ever find those grains? I am searching for quinoa now but only have weekends to go shopping and would prefer to just go and pick stuff up rather than wasting my time shopping around in Korea on the weekend which frankly makes me suicidal.....especially at happy happy Emart
