I'm looking to start teaching in Korea sometime between July and September of this year. I planning on staying for at least two years and I'm wondering how many copies of my documents (CBC, diploma, transcripts) I should bring for a stay of that length. How many copies do you need for the first year's visa?
Also, I received a weird request from a recruiter. He showed me some good job leads, but apparently he wants me to send my documents to him before I have a job offer and before I see a contract. I'm only spending $10 to get things apostilled, but it doesn't seem economical to do this if the job leads aren't what I want. Is this common or out of character? |

I have been working with recruiters and none of them have asked for my documents before showing me possible positions |

Yeah, that's what I figured. It didn't pass the stink test at all, but I don't see what a recruiter could gain from that sort of thing. So, I'm still a little confused. |

Most people only have 1 set of documents prepared so if the recruiter has them he would have you over a barrel. You take one of his offerings and he doesn't worry about you going to 10 different recruiters and picking the best job.
Ya, it doesn't pass the stink test if he was asking for the hard copies.
IT IS COMMON to send SCANS of your documents to recruiters but the hard copies only go when you are ready to apply for the visa.

I have sent scans of my documents to recruiters and potential employers. I think they ask for them to confirm that you do have the required documentation, are indeed a college graduate, and don't have a criminal history. It makes sense to me that they wouldn't want to waste time on someone who didn't have all the required documents or wasn't eligible to work in Korea. I would never send my original documents to a recruiter. The originals should only be sent as part of the package you send for visa processing once you have accepted a job. If a recruiter insists on having originals, he/she is trying to back you into a corner. You are not obligated to use only one recruiter or to use a recruiter at all. |
