I have been using either Handbrake or Xvid4PSP to convert video AVI files to MP4 so that I can view them on my iPod. There is one thing I want to do however that I haven't found an answer yet.

If I take a DVD, copy the data to disk using DVDfab, and then convert the VOB files to MP4 using Handbrake, then the chapter markers are preserved. In other words, after copying the resulting MP4 to my iPod, I can use << or >> to skip through chapters.

However, if my source file is an AVI file, usually these don't have chapter markers. If I create some file beforehand with chapter marker infomation, is there a way to add chapter markers to an MP4, either during the conversion or afterwards? Navigating through an MP4 without chapter markers is a pain.

Oops, I probably should have mentioned that my desktop & laptop is running Windows 7.
