Wearing black is very New York and is prevalent in the USA. On clothing is it "Proper" so to speak? |

There are many shades of black. Emo-black or goth-black is not proper. Professional black is. But that is just stating the obvious. |

Nope, wear all white, including your shoes. Benefits include being called "angel" by your students and being highly visible in dangerous Korean traffic. Unfortunately, the yellow dust will dirty it up, so make sure you have plenty of spare shirts, shoes, trousers, jackets and socks. |

I didn't realise how much I was wearing black when I first got here (June 2007) until my kids at the Hogwan started calling me Michael Jackson and I'm a fair haired white guy. Thats the reason they gave me when I said no, Michael Jackson's not a good thing to be calling me, they just said it was because I wore black clothes all the time
Couldn't really explain to them that being compared to him wasn't the best way to get into my goodbooks, so I changed my wardrobe somewhat
But I did dress up as Michael jackson for Halloween days

Only the shiny silver suit matched with a pink shirt, powder blue skinny tie, and 3000원 slippers will earn you the respect of your coworkers and students. |

Black is Korea's favorite color. There is no competition. This thread is like saying that the sky is blue. Now, why it's black might have something to do with New York or Milan or whatever, but I'd say it matches their collective personality quite well: a lugubrious public persona. That is, until the soju starts rolling. |

Driving home last night, I found myself wishing it were illegal for people to dress in all black, especially if they're going to stagger down the middle of the street! |
