I'm an online teacher working with a school in the boonies. I'm contracted to work with Korean co-teachers, similar to a normal routine, just online. The students are at school, on their own computers, sitting next to each with a teacher present. So basically, I pop-up and teach.
There's 1 co-teacher that's been coming in late (20-mins late)! Everyone's on time but her. She then has the nerve to ask everyone to stay even later. I can, of course, refuse to stay.
Her track record so far:
No show: 2 out of 8 classes
Late: 2 out of 8
What gets to me is after our first class, she went on and on about how much this means to her students and that I'm a "good teacher" unlike some foreigners that only teach them the ABC's. Yes, she told me this after our first meeting, complete with a 10-min long thank you.
I was wary then. She soon did a no-show claiming she was on, which apparently turned out that the whole class entered the wrong class (even though they managed to enter the right one before). Then she shows up 20 mins late, and repeats. Because the students are at school, they don't stay in their seats and it's virtually impossible for me to teach when most are not present and/or goofing off. Note: I taught online before with all the students at their homes and in that environment, I had better control of them, although they were still online (they entered my little realm). It's different when they're at school, expecting their teacher to come in anytime (yet doesn't show).
Today she has stood me up yet again. She changed our class time yesterday because of a picnic. I was doubting they'd show up on time. They all finally arrived the last 10-minutes of class and when everyone finally got situated, there was only 5-mins of class left. She expected me to stay after. I had it and gave them homework instead.
So ... I'm now contemplating reporting her. I can wait another week to see if everything gets better and she (hopefully) feels so bad she'll try harder. Or I can take my supervisors advice and just report her ass because she is getting paid for this and the children are the ones really losing out.
I have to be honest, I feel bad reporting her because she can really get into trouble for it. This is her career, whereas I'm just a part-time online teacher. |

There are times when it feels rewarding, but it's really more dependent on the co-teacher since they're the only ones that have real contact with the students. The hardest part is you don't get to bond with the kids since the program we use doesn't allow you to view everyone simultaneously (you can only see 1 person at a time and switch back and forth, which is lame). You won't see their little faces light-up unless you happen to have the video feed on that particular student, that very minute. Rewards don't work, and lessons are more intense since you're limited to online stuff, and even then there's always technical difficulties.
But I do get to stay home (I live outside of Korea), in my pajama bottoms and teach.

Yes, an attempt at private face to face conversation would be best. Nobody likes a grasser.
I'd love to work from home. |

yeah, I voted No, you need to speak to her first, maybe she's clueless as to how you feel about this - or that it's not cool - and tell her you'll be forced to discuss it with your boss if it continues.
*also I sent you a pm |
