Does any one have info on getting a cell phone in Korea?? Specifically an iPhone with an unlimited data package and possibly international coverage. I would like to be able to make and receive phone calls from the U.S. as well as within Korea. I've spoken with an ATT representative about international coverage and it was very expensive and limited.
Also, if I were able to purchase a cell phone plan and an iPhone in Korea would the apps be Korean or would I be able to access and download American apps? How long does an average contract last (if they use contracts)? What are the average costs and coverage like?
Any info would be helpful! It doesn't have to be iPhone specific. Thanks.[/i] |

| Try reading this forum. There are probably 25 threads in the past year on this topic. Plus a big one at the top of the page that will hold all the info you seek. |

| Alright, I've read through quite a few threads and found some concrete answers. I didn't see anything about making calls outside of Korea if you're on a Korean plan. Can anyone tell me the costs and options for an international plan?? Or perhaps, at least point me in the direction of a thread that may have this info? I didn't see it in the large thread. |

| You might consider using Skype (or other similar internet phone service) for your international calling. 24KW/minute on your iphone, but you need to use wifi. |

| If you get an international calling card you can use your mobile (i'm British - sorry) to call well, internationally. People can also contact you - using the country code and mobile code. |

Korea is generally not one to offer unlimited anythings, especially data plans... I think the highest that it goes to is the 3gb plan, which goes for 90,000 won a month (with voice and some texts included)

The way you could do this is either roaming (which is what the ATT rep probably told you about, which would mean you pay around $2.29/min USD). Also, with this option anyone calling you from Korea would have to dial you internationally.
You could go the skype route, and buy a US phone number. You can set it up to forward the call to your Korean phone, but it costs you a few cents per minute of skype credit to answer it. (Free if you answer it from a computer while logged into skype).

The apps that are available to you will depend on what credit card you use. If you use a Korean credit card, you will only have access to the Korean store, where as if you make your iTunes store account with an American CC, you will get the full US store.

There is an excellent chart of pricing schemes on the link I gave you at the top of this post which outlines everythign about contracts. It's not only contracts you have to deal with, but your VISA type will also determine your eligibility for getting an iPhone.
Good luck! |
