When I'm teaching I hear myself speak and see myself going about my moves and when I'm speaking to some sophisticated middle schoolers and delivering some 'homespun' wisdom about nature or hiking on the weekend or life back in Canada I feel like JED CLAMPET of the Beverly Hillbillies. Or when I'm teaching elementary and I get the impression they perceive me as from the mysterious world of 'grownups' and their priviledges I feel like OBI WAN KENOBI of Star Wars. Or when I'm in a bad mood and feel like a robot (one of those days) loud mouthing 'banalities' out of Let's Go I feel like FRED FLINTSTONE. On a good day, hamming it up for middle school girls I feel like PAUL NEWMAN. And you all?

I always wanted to teach a little like Al Pacino in Heat. My memory's a little foggy now, and I can't remember the exact lines, but there's a part where he's in a club talking to the black guy and he's so intense. He's yelling. I always thought it was suitable for an oral class. "Talk to me! Talk to me! Give me all you got! GIVE ME ALL YOU GOT! You're wasting my time! QUIT WASTING MY MOTHERPUCKING TIME! GIVE ME ALL YOU GOT!." Just once I'd like to try it, with a new class, and scare the hell out of them. Bang a few desks in the process, really get into the character.
