Just pulled up a thing about people who don't want insurance. Was there some mention of expats? |

Americans residing overseas where excluded from the final bill, to the best of my knowledge. Do you have information stating otherwise? |

I didn't see anything in your link that supports your claim. And I don't see why we would need to purchase health insurance since we have health insurance, the national health insurance. Finally I would assume that TJ is right and overseas Americans would be exempt, if not for reasons of respecting other countries or inability of the government to adequately check on our insurance status, for the reason that, since the time the insurance companies bought the bill, and they would not make as much money overseas as at home, there was no need for them to make Congress put in language saying expats were not exempt. |

I run my own company, and under the new law, I would be required to buy health insurance for employees.
If you reside overseas, you're free from the govt mandate.
I already have part of my company exempt and offshore, and I still want to come to Korea and do something fun like teaching. |

I didn't read the bill. I'm not sure many people did. Admittedly I was kind of trolling. But some of us don't reside overseas 365 days a year, so will we have to be covered if we visit home for a couple weeks?
The residing overseas thing is kind of vague. Even if you don't live in another country for more than 329 days a year, you can still clain that you do based on your intent. It's pretty open for interpretation.
If I do move home, I'll probably get insured just to make my mom feel good. She worries about that kind of stuff. |
