I just found this video on YouTube. Trent Reznor talks about animal cruelty in China on behalf of PETA.

Where did you hear that he was addicted to heroin? You must be thinking of someone else.
Ha! If he's taking any kinds of drugs, I would guess steroids. I saw him live 2 years ago and he had huge biceps. Looks like a smart and healthy dude to me.
I don't know why you replied to this thread when you're clearly not a NIN fan. You must have gotten lost looking for the Toby Keith thread. |

Overdosing on heroin was a wake-up call to Reznor, who now could not deny his problems. Worse news came in 2001, almost a year after the Fragility tour ended. While working on a live CD and DVD chronicling the US leg of the tour, a studio technician Reznor befriended was shot and killed in a gang-related crime. Seeing that his addictions had contributed to gang activity, Reznor was determined to get his problems under control. |

Thanks for the history behind the man. He's clearly turned his life around. The albun Year Zero is a masterpiece I think. |

While I support PETA's ideas, they're totally a fringe lunatic organization. They're known to fund homeland terrorism.
Making people hate you and scaring the crap out of them isn't the way to get people on board with your game plan.
Oh, and don't forget Dennis Rodman. |

Who said that? Don't forget that PETA has a lot of enemies that want to bring the organization down. They include the meat packing industries, the fur industry, zoos, the seal hunters...
On the other hand, it could be true as it is a known sabotage tactic for the enemy to send some of its people to join groups like PETA to do embarrassing things to discredit the group.
Personally, I don't aree with all of PETA's positions, but I am still glad they're around. I agree with most of their fundamental views, one being that we should treat animals with more respect. |

Saw them in concert in Seoul in 2007. Reznor is healthy, sober, and rocking harder than ever. Check any of the recent live videos on youtube. You may not like his music, but to call him a has-been is a little off. |

Then there are more objective people who oppose PETA. Such as the fine, fine people at http://www.petakillsanimals.com/ and so on. It's widely known that PETA have given funds to terrorists. PETA's accounts show that they have given large sums to convicted terrorists and arsonists. Whether, of course, this was used to fund terrorism is anyone's guess. It sure as hell allowed those people to fund promoting their extremism. To learn more about the way PETA spends its money/ the number of animals killed by PETA, I strongly suggest watching the Penn and Teller's BS show on PETA. |

Just watched Penn & Teller as you recommended. I don't think they helped their case with Ted Nugent and Penn's shouting and swearing. As for the charges against PETA, they sure look damning. That's too bad. I'd like to see PETA Reply to them. |

Whilst you are right about Ted Nugent, Penn's shouting and swearing is entirely justified anger. PETA would never respond to such allegations. They'd have to disband if they did as they'd be effectively agreeing that the organization is a hypocritical sham. Everything Penn and Teller said is a matter of public record which you can find if you have the inkling. |

Yeah right, but the way he was shouting, swearing and being generally obnoxious was so over the top this time that he exemplified one of those silly teabaggers rather than someone who has his facts straight (even though he probably does).
I also though he was rude to dress up in leather biking gear and gorging out on massive plates of ribs and buckets of chicken. As funny as that was to people who agreed with him, you have to admit that it was a cheap shot to vegetarians. I'm not a vegetarian, but my opinion of him tanked right there.
I am also convinced that this attack, not only on PETA, but on all vegetarians and animal rights people, was personal because he kept introducing what he labled as intelligent speakers as meat eaters and how they had a large girth like he does. Well, let's call a spade a spade. He should have called himself fat. Most voracious meat eaters are fat. The key to health is either vegetarianism or a moderate consumption of meat.
I think the content of the Penn & Teller show was not bad, but the reporting was all over the map. They should have cut their 30 minute report down to 10 minutes and targeted Ingrid Newkirk, the founder and leader of PETA. She may be a nutcase that started out with some sound principles, but has become frustrated and crazy along the way. People within PETA (like that defector they interviewed) should convince her to step down and pass the reigns to someone else.
Penn & Teller conveniently forget that PETA has also done a lot of good in the world using the media to get people to think about how we use animals to produce food and other uses. Without PETA, there might be no excellent movies like Food Inc. or books like The Omnivore's Dilemma.
Environmentalists are now echoing about zoos what PETA has been saying for years. The fact is that most animals don't do well in such enclosed environments. Now with the advent of HD and 3D TV, we should see animals in their own natural environments. BBC's EARTH is more interesting that vising a zoo. |
