I'm planning to do a visa run to fukoka soon. Although I've made the run to Osaka a couple of times, I have yet to do it in fukoka. I'm thinking of taking the ferry from Busan.

Anyway, to get to the point, I'm wondering if any of you seasoned travellers have any recommendations on what to do in Fukoka. I'm thinking of having a night out at the bars, etc.

Any input would be helpful. Thanks.

voodoo lounge
crazy c ock

2 cool bars there that foreigners frequent. most taxi drivers know the voodoo

if ya go on thursday, just round the corner from the korean embassy is planet hollywood (i think that is the name- 1 of those type joints anyway... lone star maybe), they have 1/2 priced drinks.. so ya can go to the embassy in the morn, down the road to a motel and check in.. the 1 i had was 5000 yen for a double. head off the the lone star (or whatever) in the arvo and hit the town at night.

works for me every time..

have fun bro

The Fukioka Ferry terminal has a very good city map, blocked into zones, with business cards and maps to the cities Hotels ...

I found a great Irish Bar with good food and Gunniess which was shocking CHEAPER then in Seoul ...

How great is the Golden C ock? It seems to have legendary status for Fukuoka. Just curious if its more or less just like any 'expat-meet-local girls' ol' bar in HongDae/Itaewon.. or its really something special..

i wasn't watchin this 1 sorry tiger.

crazy c ock & voodoo lounge..

much and much.. if 1 isnt pumpin go to the other.. they are where the foreigners meet.. i have seen some of the same guys a few times now. its easy to mingle and get in a drinking crew. mostly foreign guys with loads of jpn gals. can get really rowdy too, great night for going off. if ya going to fukuoka and ya wanna party, those are the 2 bars to go to.

when i do the visa runs it is the same pattern always. Cool
maybe a little boring for some but for me, show me the booze! always end up not really needing a motel, just somewhere to stash my bag. usually get home the next morning. i was that hammered last time i slept on the couch in the foyer for 2 hours before a gal woke me up.. i wasn't really in any condition to communicate so i went upstairs and had a qik shower and got my bag. when i went downstairs the police were there.. dunno if they were there for me but head down and bolted out the door. taxi to the embassy.. wouldn't have made the 15 minute walk. got my passport, went down to the ferry terminal and some jpn guy sat next to me and proceeded to share his saki with me @ some ungodly morning hour. on the ferry we were sharing his saki and my whiskey. always love the japan runs

there's a hard rock cafe near the embassy. i don't remember any of the names of the places i drank in but gion and hakata are generally good spots to visit. met some interesting people in gion...a couple of israeli gypsies selling jewelry and hookers who actually bought me beer.

Fukuoka is cool. I second the Voodoo Lounge suggestion. Across the hall is Vibe. Cool place if you're into Hip Hop. For a change of pace, try the Asian Art Museum. Great place. Ask the people at the desk in your hotel. They are usually in the know.

Oh one more thing. There is a GREAT Jamaican restaurant. Xamaica is the name. Cool as hell. The owner is great too. Be sure to visit Hector at the Uprising reggae bar too. It's in Tenjin. Tell him the Dread head living in Korea sent you. Never know what he'll have for you. Cool cat.

if the weather is warm, you can sleep on the beach behind the korean embassy at night. there are showers there as well. people usually hang out there drinking till quite early in the morning and it's easy to meet them and drink with them.
last time i was in fukukua, a japanese friend of mine told me that if you see an old beat up bike at the subway station, it pretty much a communal bike. so i found one and rode all over the city and had a great time. anyone else hear of anything like that?
