hey all,
i was wondering if anyone knows anything about a school called GnB english school. it is located in Ulsan. anything anyone might know would be appericated alot

As a general rule GnB schools are pretty bad.

I taught at one for a week and lets say the textbooks are shockingly boring, hence the reason i left. i would have needed brain surgery teaching that for a year.

My friend works at two GnB franchises. They treat him very well and he loves it. There are some frachise names, Wonderland comes to mind, that are considered "bad" in general. However, it's not the name that makes a a school bad It's the owners, staff, and students that make a school what it is. But I can't comment on the school in Ulsan.

Agreed with the poster above,

I work for a GnB - but of course every one is differant. The GnB textbooks are mind numbing, but luckily I don't have to teach them, I have the flexibilty to do what I want. Haven't yet met another GnB teacher so couldn't tell you about any others, only my own!!
I have been treated well and respected in my opinions which is a hell of a lot more than some of the horror stories your read on here!

the GnB in Sadong is relatively new. Located where my local pizza place used to be when I was living there. Franchised schools, some good, some bad, talk to someone who has or is still working there.

i work at a GnB, not in ulsan...i don't mind it, but then again, i don't have to use their textbooks. i teach what i want. as others have said, it's not the name of the school, it's the managment.

I also work for GnB and have found it a bit of a struggle to keep classes interesting. We use the GnB books and they do seem to focus on the 'repitition' method of teaching which can get a bit dull for the kids (and me!). Those of you who said you get a lot of freedom to teach at GnB, what materials do you use? I'd like to branch out a bit, but I don't really have much to work with. If you have any suggestions, I would really appreciate it.

I just started at a GnB as well, and I also don't have to teach their material. The books ARE pretty terrible, but I don't really care how bored they are in the Korean teacher's class. It's now my job to get them to realize there are other things to say in English besides "Are you my mother?" and "Farmer John's big white chickens."

my boss at GnB recently came to me and asked if i would mind teaching with the GnB books, and i politely said "no". i told her both the students and I are comfortable with the books we are using and it gives them some variety as well.... I use English Time with the younger students, Get Together with the in betweeners and Get Real with the more advanced. everyone is happy. I've looked through the GnB books and I thank god i'm not teaching with them.

Yeah when the kids can chirp "I am an Owl', but then couldn't change that into 'I am a boy' or 'I am 9 years old' you know theres a problem. Freedom at my GnB means that I can cut and paste my lessons from all manner of places, the Internet, other books lying around the school and some that I've bought myself. Sometimes I just come up with something myself, although that often ends in disaster!
I'm off to work at another GnB one day a week and apparently they want me to teach the GnB texts, but to change the sentances to another way of saying the same thing.......hmmmm.
