Instead of asking what schools to avoid (as usual), I thought I might take a different tactic. Forgive me if someone has already done this -- and send me a link to the post.

IF you LIKE your school:
What is it's name? Where is it located? What are the things you like about it, and why are they more important than the cons of the school (cause obviously no place is perfect) ?

I'm looking for a kindergarten job for August/September. I have applied to a few recruiters, but I would like to apply to some schools directly as well, to see if I have more luck that way. BUT of course, I have no idea where to begin!

I love my school, but there aren't any openings until March.

Mine's ok. The pay isn't great, my work schedule isn't bad and most of the people are really cool.

Love my high school:

-15 classes a week (though with the amount of tests & other stuff this averages out at about 12 a week)
- 1 lesson plan a week
- state of the art classroom (SmartBoard etc)
- can teach anything I want
- private school so the atmosphere amongst all the staff is great
- I can go home early if I have no class
- Nearly 3 months holiday
- no desk warming ever, if they have tests, school trips my co teachers tell me to stay at home.
- they deal with any problems with anything immediately, even paid for the fees to replace my passport when I lost it

Will be sad to leave in August

I love my school, again. like a previous poster, there are no openings until at least march. One of the old teachers has their friend coming as a replacement for the guy leaving at the end of June and one of the new teachers has his friend coming as a replacement for a guy leaving at the end of November.

It's always the same when you have a good school, friends will get the openings first.

I actually liked my hagwon even though I complained all the time in my blog! Most of my problems were with misbehaving students! I also hated finding out everything at the last minute but I think that seems to be common everywhere. I had a few bad experiences, but the good outweighed the bad and I'm so thankful that I didn't have any horror stories to report.

I told them I want to come back next year. I'd rather return to my old school than start out somewhere new and end up in a bad situation.

I was the only foreign teacher at my campus.

All of the 5 foreign teachers were just replaced between January and March so I doubt there are any openings.

Pros:
I loved my officetel. It was nice and huge. very quiet and in a good neighborhood. If something was broken they would make sure it got fixed right away. I enjoyed living really close to E-Mart and 5 mins from the Subway station. That was nice.

good schedule-2pm-9pm.

I had control over making my own lessons (using the curriculum), making my own tests, didn't have to write lesson plans, I went at my own pace. co-teachers were nice

paid on time-pension and insurance were taken out properly

small classes

The co-teachers were always willing to help me when I needed a translation or someone to call somewhere for me

I was able to dress casually

Overall it was a good experience.

There's a reason for no names, Kate. What do you think it is?
After 8 or so postings.....
competition. The market is tough now. Most people start out their first year figuring out what they need to do to get these great jobs. Or, they are just very thorough and resourceful. Either you have it or you don't. The resourcefulness, that is. Just trying to help.
