|
|
Last year I signed a 2 year contract. I was told that even though it was for two years that I would have to re-sign a contract this year.
However, this year I have been told that I will not be signing the 2010 contract. The 2009 contract was vague about what happens after one year. It's written in such a way that, if they choose so, they don't have to provide the two weeks bonus vacation or the airfare.
I am in discussions now but it does not look good. I don't know of any other teachers facing this problem and that more than anything, makes me angry. However I do recognize that five weeks of vacation is still very good and the contract excludes me from working weekends.
But
I asked about the contract completion bonus based on my contract as I did not sign the 2010 contract .
EPIK is taking the stance that, even though I have not signed the new contract (which does not include a completion bonus,) that I am not eligible to receive it though the contract I'm on specifies that I should receive it. I am suspect that they are going to treat me as though I'm on the new contract whilst cheating me out of the vacation and airfare (now called an allowance of some sort.)
Is anyone having similar problems? |

Don't sign a 2 year contract. A friend of mine got screwed around like that last year.
No extra 2 week vacation, airfare, pay raise, etc. |

You're on a current contract, right? How, then, can someone make you sign another contract that covers some of the same time as the current one? |

Ramen-
Thanks. Last year only two year contracts were offered so I didn't have an option. I'm still waiting to hear back about the airfare, but it looks like I can at least get the two weeks if the school doesn't decide to throw a fit or have a camp. Maybe. But since the money has to go up the channels for approval, I have to keep my fingers crossed that this next person continues to interpret "not opting out after one year" as "resigning." But I did sign a two year and I knew the "resigning" clause was slippery. At least I know I'm not the only one.
Cali.
No one can make you sign a new contract. But if they don't renew your visa then a two year contract doesn't mean a whole lot. Frankly I'd take the two weeks vacation and "resigning bonus" ahem airfare over the contract completion bonus which is only 1mil (and the camp I'll have to do this summer.) |
