Has this happened to anyone else? My local police station wants to check my criminal record. I think they are just building a database for foreigners. My school says its nothing to worry about.
They didn't take my finger prints or social security number.
I just signed 3 forms and gave a photo copy of my green card.

Anyway, just worndering if this is a new thing?

It might be, but the obvious answer would be "Meh". If you'd actually been convicted of any crime here you would have been deported faster than you can say kimchi.

For what reason do they wish to "check your criminal record"?

It's your school that wants to check your criminal record in Korea. If the police wanted they could look at it at any time -- it's their database. You just gave your school permission to do the search and check on you.

Sure it makes the OP wonder. I wouldn't ever trust them nor feel comfortable enough to stay with them for very long after pulling that crud on me. Something like this could happen anywhere in the world and can be much worse than an inquiry to the police.

It really makes me wonder what they are doing? They told me it was a new procedure, but I've had my E2 almost 2 months and its my 3rd year here. I just don't feel comfortable there and don't like the vibe of the director anymore.
