I'd appreciate some honest advice regarding job prospects for someone in his late 50's who has extensive experience teaching ESL in Japan, Middle East and Latin America. I have BA and MA in English from US schools but no ESL certification. Have taught on secondary, university levels and for corporations. Good appearance.

Yes, I just discovered your post and commented. Is it even worth applying from abroad? Or am I just wasting time?

It's doable but it will not be easy.

Time and patience will be required for a decent position.

Look for a high school to get here and get your feet wet. Move up from there in your 2nd year.

Age is preferred in high schools. Youth is preferred for teaching younger students.

You would also be able to land a 2nd or 3rd tier uni position from abroad come the time June for Sept hires and Dec for March starts.

IF you were HERE you could look at 1st and 2nd tier uni's with your quals.

Oh, and I am over 50 and have had no problems getting or keeping a position here. I still get offers to change jobs too so it is not a lost cause.

.
