This volcano thing is going on too long. I've missed 2 flights to the UK
Last time it erupted it lasted a year or more. It's costing airlines soo much in these recession times.
Interesting stuff..
If it rains it pours!! |

It's distresssing, indeed. I don't quite know what to tell you, though there is at least one lengthy Wikipedia article on the eruption, containing links to shorter wiki articles specifically about the flight disruptions. |

So God's a Republican? Is He more of a libertarian or neocon?
OK, OK, I admit it! I did it |

Ash from the volcanic eruption in Iceland is forecast to reach the Korean Peninsula's atmosphere Tuesday, the weather agency said Monday. However, its impact on respiratory diseases or other health conditions is expected to be minimal.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the volcanic ash from Eyjafjallajokull will enter the atmosphere 6,000 to 8,000 meters above the ground on Tuesday and 3,000 to 5,000 meters above it on Thursday.
"The heavier ash has already been scattered in the European atmosphere and people will not be affected by the micro-scale dust," it said in a press release. |
I suppose Korea's immune to dust by now! |

Didn't know about the fireworks from Incheon.
Quote: |
At Incheon International Airport in South Korea, a group of about 30 frustrated passengers blocked a Korean Air ticketing counter and demanded a meeting with company officials to arrange travel to anywhere in Europe after they heard an Air France jet flew from the airport to the French city of Bordeaux.
They held up a makeshift sign saying, "We want to come back home," each word written on a separate piece of paper and held by an individual traveler.
"We need a flight, we need a time," Thierry Loison, who has been stuck since Friday at Incheon on the way back to France after a vacation in Bali, told Korean Air officials. "We were like animals this morning."
Passengers resting on blankets spread on the floor of a business center complained about the lack of hotel accommodations. They said they were only receiving a voucher for one meal a day at McDonald's and that they were running out of money. |

It really pays to resist the temptation to spend everything while on vacation! Have to be prepared for anything nowadays.
Also, one meal a day from McDonald's? Where's Burger King and all the Korean places when you need them? |

Airside at Incheon airport now has 0 ATMS due to some Korean banking regulation. I hope they've got credit cards to pay for everything =) |

Another thing to consider is in route passengers don't know Korea like we do so they don't know how to do anything other than sit and wait nor did they plan on going to Korea. Many of them simply might find it difficult to talk to someone and get specific information. Some intelligent ones not concerned about costs might inquire how to ride a bus or taxi into Seoul, rent a hotel, and enjoy an unexpected stopover in Seoul while keeping in touch with their airline for a flight out. Others might be broke, but traveling gap year kids living at home on an unemployment payment though their country social system so they are on the airport floor waiting to go home.
No ATM's? I don't recall seeing any. I saw 2 currency exchange booths before the exit and no restaurants on my way out through the terminal hall. Nice shiny new airport, but not a very hospitable one to do any time in. |

Yeah, 0 ATMs.
Last time I flew from there, I planned to change some money at one of the banks in the basement level. As I was standing in the security line I suddenly remembered that I'd forgotten.
"Oh well", I figured, "I'll get some money airside."
After going through security I went over to the KB* (my bank!) exchange counter, handed over my KB* card, and asked for 1m won in Thai baht. The guy told me I couldn't use my Kb* card at his KB* bank airside, because of some banking regulations. So I asked him where the nearest ATM was so I could withdraw some money. He told me there are no ATMs either because of banking regulations. I explained to him that my bank card wouldn't work abroad, and the situation was pretty serious.. he pretty much told me to go away haha. After a bit more cajoling he told me to try the information desk.
At the information desk they told me to call my airline. I called my airline, which was Thai Air. Thai Air called Asiana. Asiana sent a member of their groundstaff over to me, then took me back through security (which was a LOT of hassle). I managed to use an ATM ground side and get taken back across. It took about 2 hours in total. Not cool. |

A truly ridiculous state of affairs. Especially as a resident of the country. |
