The tours sound very exciting and it doesn't seem like a bad deal for a night of drinking and a tour around Jongno 3-ga. I'm heading up to Seoul this weekend and I think I want to go on the tour. I heard that there was an underground gay scene there, does anyone know about that?

I've been reading this guy's blog for a while now and I've seen all the different restaurants he goes to. Are his recommendations good? I'm living in Gyeongju right now, so I feel like I don't really know the big city at all.
I did notice that he trashed this restaurant (which I thought was hilarious) so he must not play favorites: http://www.seouleats.com/2010/03/my-chelsea-in-itaewon-is-it-worth-your.html
I mean has anyone met him? I figure he must weigh like 500 pounds or something and eat like 10 meals a day. What's his deal? Is he a teacher?

His name is Daniel Gray and he's a good guy. He's not 500 lbs. I don't know why you care so much about his appearance but check out some cooking clips of his in Seoul eats if interested. He's not an esl teacher either at least not anymore. Again read his website for details.
I've been to one of his food tours and enjoyed it. And I would probably go to the drinking tour if I wasn't so busy. The price is a little high in my opinion but you should have a great time. |

I called the guy and he seems very cool. I'm signing up for this Friday Night. I don't think 80,000 is too much because it's like 3 restaurants and lots of different types of alcohol. Geez. I spend 80,000 just hanging out with friends eating fried chicken, barbecue, and having cocktails. It's scary that this is going to be my first visit to the Jongno area, but having a tour guide will make it easier. |

I think it is very expensive per person for three hours. It's a good idea if you're a tourist, but you'll find it much more beneficial to do it on your own with friends. He may take you for some better kalmaeggisal, but half the fun of exploring new areas is doing it on your own.
I believe the "underground" gay scene you've heard about is in Nakwon, which is the area directly to the east of Insa-dong. I've heard it's geared more towards middle aged Korean men, and a pretty tough scene to access if you're not accompanied by a Korean. There are probably some posters with far more information than me though. |

So, I went on this guy's tour and it was pretty awesome. I got to see a really cool area of Seoul Jungno3ga that I hadn't seen before. Also, the restaruants were pretty great. I loved the galmaekki sal restaurant that he took us too. I also got to taste a number of different alcohols and stuff. Plus after, he took us to an extra restaurant and had some beer and chicken. Overall, a great night. |

I like to stick to that kind of routine on Friday and Saturday nights.
I stick to the outdoor oil barrel style meat restaurants. Followed by either Makoli and pancake or Fried Chicken and beer. |
