Hi all,
I'm one of the many EPIK applicants this year concerned about the fact that they're no longer putting non-married couples together. My boyfriend is applying with me and we'd really like to figure out a way for us to end up close to each other. Right now I think our best bet is to apply for the same city (we really don't want rural) and hope that we get apartments that aren't too far from each other or are within cities with good commuting options. It would not be fun to live on opposite sides of a spread-out city with little to no public transportation.
Anyway, I'm just wondering what your thoughts are on how best to do this (and live in a fabulous place with tons of things to do, of course). What cities are either fairly compact or have the best transportation options in case we are far apart? Specifically, I'm thinking of those that are on the EPIK application (Busan, Daegu, Gwanju, Ulsan, Daejeon).
We're not considering Seoul, by the way.
Muchas gracias! |

Try GEPIK (instead of EPIK) and aim for a city like Suwon or Seongnam. good links to everywhere in the country, some decent tourist stuff, easy access to Seoul for some comfort stuff once in a while...
I used to live in Bundang (Seohyun station area) and had all the conveniences of home but I worked for the Hannam/Gwangju school district so I got the "rural experience" too. Only a 30 minute commute to work and I got the best of both worlds.
I had a similar experience when I worked in Yongtong-dong in Suwon. |

Busan and Daegu both have multi-line subway systems in addition to their frequent buses. Unless you are in a very rural location you should be served by a very reliable and frequent bus to get you where you need or want to go. Korea has a very good rail system and express bus (inter city) bus system as well. For your around town errands you'll do well to purchase yourself a bicycle and/or scooter. |
