|
|
So I somehow lost my iPod recently and I'm looking to get a replacement.
Ive thought about buying a new nano but Apple products are really expensive in Korea.
I use a Macbook Pro as my primary computer so I wasnt sure what options I would have. I love Apple but I'm not necessarily a "fanboy" and I'm willing to try something different if its good quality.
Can anyone recommend any mp3 or media players? Or should I just bite the bullet and get another iPod?
Also...would you recommend having someone send it from the US or should I pay outrageous prices that they charge here?
And I already have a phone so please...no smartphone recommendations if you can help it.
Thanks! |

Cowon S9.......been using one for almost 2 years and can't really fault it....except for a confusing menu system.....but that could just be me being dense!
You'll find it's a lot easier to use on the fly as, unlike ipods, just about any file format commonly used for downloading is supported by the S9.
Also, the 3.3'' AMOLED screen is a joy to watch and beats any ipod screen.
16GB model is 239,000. |

Do it BB. You won't regret it. Check out the full list of features.

They're as cheap as they're going to get at the moment as they've been out for almost 2 years......but the only new feature missing from the S9 is x264 playback.......which is pointless anyway on a 3.3'' screen! It's only when you do TV-out might you want x264 support. |

Do you think it would be worth holding out for the J3? http://product.cowon.com/
It just seems like the S9 in a different shell. And I really don't understand why they don't just include wi-fi... despite the 3.3" screen, it'd be nice. SOOO TEMPTING. |

iPod Touch is still supreme. I've owned Cowons in the past, and the hardware is good, but the OS is crap. And the OS is what you'll be interacting with most of the time. |

Yeah, unless you care anything at all about audio and video quality. Then Cowons take an absolute, premium, fully-grown adult blue whale sized s*** all over the iPod Touch. The iPod touch is a decent "all-arounder" but it is not better than Cowons in the audio/video quality department. I'm not a casual consumer and am somewhere closer towards those crazy audio/videophiles on the consumer spectrum so I care about these things.
Sure, you'll be interacting with the OS, but honestly, what you're going to be doing most of the time is listening/watching your media. Or, if you love playing games and fiddling around with apps, then sure, iPod Touch is your baby.
I don't care about apps, I don't care about all that other stuff. Wi-fi would be nice, but Cowon audio and video quality are what I need. |

That J3 looks to me like a re-packaged S9 with the addition of DMB. It seems to be for sale now. 299,000 for 16GB.......not a bad price.....

My Korean isn't good enough to determine if it has true wifi with an internet browser. I don't think it does.
I can vouch for the video and audio quality of the Cowon's.......they look and sound way better than ipods to me.
My S9 combined with the Klipsch S4 IEM's gives an amazingly audiophile-like experience. I never thought portable audio could sound like that. And I'm very picky about sound quality (used to spend all my money on hi-fi in the 90's). |

If you've done your research, you'll discover that the iPod Touch has one of the cleanest signals around in a portable unit, while Cowons are notorious for horrendous bass roll-off with any kind of load. The Touch also has a very wide soundstage. Head over to head-fi.org and read up about the machine testing they've done there.
What the Cowon has is a very customizable EQ, which some people like.
As far as video quality in a unit with a 3.3-3.5 inch screen, it's not something that I personally am very concerned with. |

What's the deal with these newer MP3's having only 16GB of memory? I bought an IPOD classic 2 years ago and it has a whopping 80GB with the new ones having 160GB. I love that extra space for tons of music, videos, and as an extra external hard disk backup. If I got one of those new touch screen 16GB players, I'd be up all night for several nights in a row trying to reduce my library. |

The newer players have flash memory drives.......no moving parts...faster and should last a very long time..............the older ipods have 80-160GB hard drives. Very unreliable.
I'd take a 16GB flash drive over a 160GB hard drive anytime. |

I've had an ipod touch, a sansa (a couple actually), an archos 404(?), several phones that were worthless (incl. samsung haptic), and I'm finding simplicity to be hugely underrated.
I recently found a 7000won mp3 player with SD slot. It's like a Shuffle without the shuffle. I can drag and drop, take it to the gym and if I lose it, big deal. I bought two. Its cheap enough that I can send it to my gf as a mixtape |
